I used to be great with names now I sometimes struggle with them and the more I try to remember the worse the block becomes. Sometimes I get a complete brain freeze when I'm trying to think of the words I want to use, it's really quite worrying. At what point I wonder, is just a bad memory really the onset of dementia sad

I forget all sorts of things. My friend was talking about her wedding 40 years ago. Apparently I was there but can't recall it at all. Similarly very few memories of my children when they were young. I put it down to the fact that I have done so much over the years that I can't possibly remember it all. My best friend, however, remembers everything I tell her whereas I forget things people tell me. So don't worry. You're not alone.

I find my memory improves when my inflammation is low.

If I eat carbs and sugar I can’t remember things.

Eating a low carb ketogenic diet has me remembering poems I learned in school!

My sister recalls all sorts of memories from childhood. I don’t remember all the incidents. The ones I do remember are accurately told by her, so I would think the rest are right, even if I have forgotten them.

Over 30 years ago when my sister was fatally injured in a road accident at the end of March. I was coninved that the last time I had seen her was the previous Christmas. We had been in touch by phone, but not met up since then. We had been in contact quite a bit because we had been organising weekend visits to a disabled aunt whose husband was in hospitaal

At the time DH was working in Japan and, in a time before email, I had been writing him letters that went out with his company's courier. About 10 years after my DS's death, I was tidying a drawer when I found all the letters I had written, which had been kept for some reason.

Re reading them I came across a reference to my sister coming down to my aunt's at the same time as I was there. It was brief overnight visit on her journey somewhere else. This was only 2 weeks before her death, yet the memory disappeared almost instantly, leaving me convinced i hadn't seen her since Christmas.

Since then I have been able to retrieve the odd partial memory of the event. - of her arriving quite late, of us standing in the bedroom we shared, talking, of the weather being very cold, but little else.

We were talking about something which happened some years ago, and I have absolutely no recollection of it whatsoever! This led me to thinking of other things I can’t remember, for example, a wedding we attended, one son’s first day at school, a trip to the Glasgow Garden Festival with our school, and probably many other things. Has anyone else found this?

I’ve just remembered a conversation I had with a friend who said she had been wondering why she wasn’t at her cousin’s wedding, then her cousin told her she had indeed been there, and even showed her photographs! She still has no recollection of it, and she said she would have sworn that she had only worn the outfit in the photos once, to another function entirely!
I hope it’s just yet another sign of old age.
