My DD was horrified when she discovered us eating our evening meal on the sofa whilst watching telly. “You always insisted we eat at the table! “ she said. Well we eat our breakfast and lunch at the table, but in the evening after a a day of childcare , gardening or general being out and about we just want to relax in front of the telly for a couple of hours. If we had company of course we wouldn’t do it, but we enjoy our relaxing evening - anyone else or are we just becoming slobs as we age?
It depends if there is gravy involved!
Well we are obv slobs ( I don’t think so though🤣🤣 we have our supper on a lap tray in front of our tele and quite frankly will do what we want in our own house rest of meals are at the table
As Soda and Cossy have said (others too) yes, we also eat that way, a bit later than some folk I expect, 8.30 or so?
We only have the one TV, and we can talk about drama, documentary or news along with dinner. Tonight I expect we'll make some salty jibes about the PO Boss being grilled today, claiming he had NOT known about any prosecutions (almost 300 of them in his reign).
On the food front, we do sometimes get joined by the cat, depending what we're having, so we save a treat or two for him (if he's in).
It's entirely up to you. Personally wouldn't want to be that close to doggie snouts!
Yes every night unless we have company then full works at the Dining Table in the Dining Room.
I guess we are slobs ! Sorry (not sorry)😘
Yes with husband, but never when family are around, especially in the Winter in front of the woodstove.
I drink my first cup of coffee just after getting up and dressed in my armchair in the sitting-room, but eat other meals sitting at the table.
We did eat in the sitting-room when DH was too ill to be comfortable at the table, which is one reason why I reverted to the dining-table after his death.
For three months or so, I could bear the sitting-room during the day, but not in the evening, when his empty sofa seemed to loom at me.
ALWAYS .... unless I have friends or family in for a meal.
Enjoy!!!
Yes we eat tea (from north) on our lap. Table is reserved for when visitors arrive and usually needs clearing off 😀 before we eat
We always ate at table when kids at home but as they are all grown up now have no need
We always had meals at the table when children lived at home, but we had a TV in the kitchen/brakfast room so could waatch. Since TV went digitsl I don't have a TV in there as they need an aerial point for a set top box or a more modern TV with an indoor aerial, neither of which I have. I only use the table now when family visit. I live alone and am fine eating on my lap. When my DD moved home for a while we both ate meals on our laps unless it was a very elaborate one. DD always eats on her lap despite having a dining table in her living room. My DS and his family usually eat at the table though they sometimes allow my GS to eat in the living room as he often eats earlier than them and wants to watch TV so I'm sure it isn't unusual. I expect many families don't posess a dining table!
One of the joyful benefits of being a childfree single household is that I can eat my meals as and when I like. I dont have to stick to regular times (although I generally do) and there is not one to judge me. Im not a great TV watcher but eating from a tray while I watch something for half an hour is how I break off from time on the computer.
No, I never eat on the sofa, even if I’m on my own. This is partly because I have a tendency to drip gravy down my front, easier to deal with at the table!
I have just relented in the last couple of weeks, and allowed my boy to eat in his room.
It goes against the grain, really.
we eat all our meals on our knee, not always with the tv on but at tea time we watch a recording of the Chase while we eat.
Always ate at the table with the children when they were at home as was a great time to talk and catch up ( horror yes I encouraged talking at the table!!).
The grandchildren eat at the table when here and somebody usually sits with them. No tv on when they are here and eating though.
Yes we eat in front of TV every evening. OH comes in from work at 6.30ish so we do just slob out so to speak. Family gatherings are round a table. I eat lunch alone during the week from a tray on my lap and Dinner is in the evening.
We eat our lunch and dinner on a tray in front of the TV. The only time we eat at the table is when we have guests.
We are from the North and call it dinner.
We also eat dinner while watching TV and I always really look forward to it and chilling 😊
Supper, to me, is a sneaky extra late night snack.
..
Times have changed. Even in the South.
Sill lunch at 1:00pm of course (for ex-white-collar works - noon if blue!) but the evening meal is now supper.
Dinner is now the given name for a formal, business or official evening meal out.
..
No! We wouldn’t dream of it.
We eat at the table, often with a glass of wine, and discuss the day and whatever else comes to mind then we relax in front of the TV/read/play Scrabble etc. often with another glass of wine - very relaxing 😀
We certainly do - every night we have "tea" in the front room watching TV. Absolutely nothing wrong with that from our point of view - why not? There's nobody else here that we're trying to impress & if there is, then it's the kitchen table for family & close friends or the dining table for anyone else. We always have breakfast & lunch at the kitchen table unless we have that British rarity - a hot summer day - when we may eat all meals around the patio table.
The dining table is for jigsaws and guitar paraphernalia Husband eats lunch there.
I eat on laptray.
Rare occasion we have visitors we use the table

I'm a widow and live alone. I always eat at a table, and have dinner at 8 pm with placemat, linen napkin and a glass of wine. I have the radio on while I'm eating, usually a detective story or a play on Radio 4 Extra. I quite enjoy this very civilised way of dining - when my husband was alive, he would just scoff every meal down in a rush, but I like a more slow and relaxed eating experience!
I don't have a table either- it's all sofa eating now!
My eldest GS has fond memories of staying with me and having bacon sandwiches for breakfast sitting on the sofa watching cartoons. It was a lovely holiday treat. (and then I had a table)
Ditto Grannynannywanny and Granny Somerset*]
I live alone and eat from a tray in front of the TvV for every meal. And yes, can't be bothered to make that much effort so some of meals are very much basic and often at odd times.
