Skin checks - do you get them ?

I've had melanoma which spread but I still don't get skin checks. I'm very freckly with lots of moles (typical redhead) so a 'per mole' private screening isn't going to happen. The NHS has never been bothered since my routine checks after surgery stopped. I have never sunbathed and use at least factor 50 from March to the end of October.

Yes, I get my very fair skin checked yearly.

Well, strangely enough I have something suspicious that I'd like checked out, so for peace of mind I'd pay that.

I bet there isn't a branch near me now.

I visit myDD near Sydney and have a check up every time I visit. I think it costs about £200 if you have a private one here.
I think I paid $60 last time I had one in Aus.
I didn’t bother this time because I had just been discharged after having the end of my nose chopped off because I had another BCC.
I was surprised that the dermatologist didn’t look at the rest of my body before discharging me. The previous one did.
Now I am back relying on my GP who, IMO, is blind!

I always think that.
We have a list of things to watch out for, go to docs and get told it's fine, then they spot a tiny little patch of dry skin and say its suspicious.

Sometimes the ones which look like nothing much are worse than the big raised ones. You can’t really tell just by looking at them.

DH has lots of freckles and moles and we are watching one or two but GP says ok at the moment. We are on Molewatch.

I have a friend who is an NHS consultant radiologist and she pays for an annual private check-up ,with photos , as she is very ‘moley’.

Years and years ago, a gp did tell me not to think he was a creep, but asked if he could photograph me in just my knickers.

He said it was the best way to keep a check on people with lots of moles.

It never happened, and now there is no chance of it happening.

I make an appointment with GP and get a quick once over I am vigilant having lived in a Mediterranean Country spending hours and hours in the beach with the children.

I did think about this and how lax we are in this country. I had to be really determined get past the nurse practitioner and the receptionist at the surgery to get DH seen by a GP and then an urgent appointment with a dermatologist, luckily.
Many people would have given up but we have spent a lot of time in Australia, seen how it is dealt with there, so persevered.

It's a good idea if you've had previous problems but we are all at risk as we get older, especially if we haven't avoided the sun.

Lol- what sun? I ask myself, hope that isn't flippant. It also depends on your skin colouring too- pale skin with freckles is more at risk but it can take years to appear so exposure to the sun as children is more of an indicator.
