Am I alone in finding the woman in the new ads totally annoying?

I suppose they have to waste their money ‘rebranding’, trying to appeal to different people, like so many, and forgetting those who may have a higher disposable income. I don’t remember when they last appealed to me, and this certainly won’t do it. I will happily admit to being another old misery who will spend their grey pound elsewhere.

I agree with GSM
They are targeting their brand at the wrong people. It could actually be quite easy to target their brand but I think fashion often ignores the needs and wants of older people (ie above 45)!

It’s interesting, because the new range at M&S is the best it’s been for many years, and there is a lot of stuff that’s age appropriate for older women (as you said unfix1 the trousers are excellent, really good quality and fit), I love their shirts too at the moment. They are obviously trying to appeal to the young too with this advert, which isn’t their traditional clientele.

You have to give them marks for trying!
They are obviously trying to move away from their frumpy clothes image.

Some of their clothes are great just now!

I still get my basic items from M&S but find it harder to find summer tops that are not almost as long as tunics.
I tend to ignore the advertisements completely and just browse the website.

Any publicity is good publicity? It’s got us all talking about it!! grin

Namsnanny Sat 13-Apr-24 20:08:02

But realistically they can't target the over 45's as their major customer, if they want to stay afloat. We die off.

A younger customer may buy from them for 40 years or more.

I actually like some of the clothes in the advert. Especially the waistcoat suit. I couldn't possibly fit in it though

GrannyGravy13 Sat 13-Apr-24 20:10:22

I had a browse the other day and could have spent ££££’s

They have definitely listened to their customer base.

I can barely fit in my flat, let alone a pair of trousers.

That is the funniest thing I read all day, your humour is top class!!

Whoever’s £££ they are targeting, it’s clearly working

“Marks & Spencer's clothing and home division has reported a 30% increase year on year in adjusted operating profit to £223.4m in its half-year results for the 26 weeks to 30 September 2023.”

I find them all boring and annoying apart from the Meerkat ones and I love those, they always make me laugh.

Joseann Sat 13-Apr-24 21:31:47

grin
Do the meerkats get their clothes from M & S?
They wear some good outfits.

Opposite problem here at 5’ 11’ I like the longer tops harold

Regarding trousers I wish they would just sell trousers with different inside leg measurements because their “regular” length is way too long for me and I’m 5’4. Then I’d dance about 😼

They do. Long, regular, short, and, in some styles extra-short.

FindingNemo15 Sat 13-Apr-24 23:05:00

I read somewhere the girl in the adverts is a Portugese model.

I was about to post the same thing. I have recently bought two pairs of short jeggings.

Me too. I’m always on the lookout for long tops to wear with jeggings. Some years ago they had some plain polo necked (non chunky) knitted ones that were perfect - I bought 3 in different colours.
There’s been nothing the same since, at least not that I’ve seen

So many people wear leggings or jeggings - I’m not particularly porky but surely there must be plenty of others who also want tops that cover their bottoms?

I do love their ‘cosy’ jeggings, though - I live in mine in winter. And yes, they do come in different lengths.

eddiecat78 Sun 14-Apr-24 09:42:38

Perhaps I imagined this but a few years ago didn't they make a point of including different sizes and ages in their adverts?
My reaction to the current one was instantly "She's very young" and not bothering to notice what she is wearing

Casdon Sun 14-Apr-24 09:45:20

I think the length issue is real for jeans and trousers because they aren’t consistent, and the lengths have increased. I’m 5’6” and a 31” inside leg which I’d say is a pretty standard size, and have always had regular length which fitted without alteration. Last week I bought a pair of chinos, and for the first time ever, I needed short length. It’s a pain as you have to get dressed, go out and get them and try them on. I’d only bought some jeans in regular a few weeks ago which were fine. It would be better if they actually stated what length the inside leg is, rather than just stating long, regular and short.

I'm looking for 3/4 length leggings in colours. I want them for wearing under a few embroidered shift dresses in my wardrobe. I've turned them up a bit into tunics. I don't like showing my derrière in leggings, except for dance classes, and then I wear the M &S tight shiny ones.

Joseann Sun 14-Apr-24 09:48:37

I bought regular jeans last month. They are soo long, they are already showing signs of fraying wear round the bottom.

Chestnut Sun 14-Apr-24 09:49:31

There are longer tops here:

Me too steroids feel huge at the moment longest winter on record for me and asthma/ bronchitis terrible.

Harris27 Sun 14-Apr-24 09:51:11

Sorry in M&S yesterday the linen trousers were the only thing I bought hopefully for a summer desperately needed!

Joseann Sun 14-Apr-24 09:53:36

You can tell how overly long the sizing is from the crinkly denim around my ankles where they bunch up. , do give them a thrashing on dog walks, but traipsing in all this mud doesn't help when the sizing is off. I'm about 5' 5".
