How I envy those whose choice of husband turned out right, because mine didn't - but we are still "married" 52 years later. That said, it hasn't all been bad, just not filled with love and not a lot of support from him. We've had plenty of ups and downs but all of the downs have been borne (and sorted) by me and he has virtually no recollection of them nor appreciation of the effort I made to resolve them. In short, he left all the bad stuff to me, like the five years of emotional effort in supporting our daughter with (and through) bulimia while he carried on his life as normal, not getting involved at all. It was a terribly lonely time for me, basically on my own. And so unfair. Not what I call a partnership. But things improved and said daughter obtained a good degree and job, married a lovely man, and has provided us with two wonderful grandchildren.
Two upcoming things will definitely be major highlights for me - if our second daughter's efforts at IVF are successful (and we might know tonight!!) and if my recent cancer treatment has worked (six weeks before I will know). If both work out I will feel I am the luckiest woman on earth.
