Just that. Nat king Cole came on my play list just now singing that song and I've always known which day I would choose. The day I met my future husband. What day would you choose?

Being in the Cotswolds as a child with my aunt and godmother.
Roses round the cottage door, the mill and the stream close by.

The day my first grandson was born. I was so elated.

Just to go back to my old family home on an ordinary day, and see my parents, and have a cup of tea with them.

To be able to see my lovely brother again and to have the conversation that we needed to have...

The day our daughter, our only child, was born - minus the labour!

A major regret in my life caused us a huge financial loss. ‘The road not taken. I so wish I could go back to that day and make a phone call - instead of letting my hubris taking over and assuming things would work out fine and dandy.
😢

I also have 2 other major regrets but we are where we are so it’s best not to dwell on them. I’ve drawn a line in the sand. I’ve had to for self preservation.

Strange how this line of thinking has influenced my answer. I’ve many happy memories. But my ‘one day’ would be to mitigate great sadness in my life.

There was one day when I could have taken a different road, too. I would like to go back to that day. My life could have been very different.

I would choose the exact same day I met my husband.

Understand.

The day we got married but only the latter half of it, The service and reception were were quite fraught due to the grooms relatives who all belonged to an evangelical church which prohibited drinking and dancing. All their weddings were formal with a very religious service followed by a no singing no dancing no speeches reception in the adjoining church hall. They were shocked by the hilarious speeches, alcohol served with the meals, and dancing to a live band. When we went through the traditional rota of dances there was no one from their side taking part, I was left partnerless until my Boss from work stepped in to dance with me. The final straw was when our young minister joined the band to sing "He's got the whole world in his hands, amending the lyrics to include the families .
We finished up with Auld Lang Syne and most of them did not join the circle. Then off we went by taxi and train to a Glasgow hotel as we were flying to Italy in the morning. We were just in time for dinner in the quiet restaurant though neither of us was hungry. Suddenly DH (normally the least romantic man) grabbed and kissed my hand with my rings on and at the top of his voice said for all to hear that he was the happiest man in the world, that he loved me to the ends of the earth and back. The rest of the diners applauded and stood to make a toast to us.
And so to bed..... blushwink

To have one day with my late husband, to go a walk, call at the local pub for a drink, just an ordinary day, I still miss him as much, everyone thinks after a couple of years you’re over it.

The day DS1 came home from Japan following a massive stroke. Although he, and we, had a long hard road ahead, it was lovely to have him here and not at he other side of the world.

I haven't had that day yet- the best is yet to come?

Oh Allsorts I believe you’d never get over it. 💐
Just learn to navigate it as best as, I suppose?

The have the day back with my son and for the day to mean that he didn’t die

GrannySomerset Mon 15-Apr-24 16:06:20

As Allsorts so accurately puts it - to have an ordinary day with DH when he was still well, though he would have been busy planning the next holiday no doubt. We don’t appreciate the ordinary until it is too late and life can never be the same again.

I really don’t know! I’ve made many poor choices in my life, equally have had amazing days! I think I’d love to have a glass of bubbly with my dearest parents.

I have stopped her

Grannybags Mon 15-Apr-24 16:30:20

Couldn’t choose between two days

Tell my youngest brother not to swim in the sea where he drowned

Talk my middle brother out of taking his life

Urmstongran Mon 15-Apr-24 16:33:38

So much anguish on here. It’s truly heartbreaking.
We never know the day do we?
💐 for all who have suffered loss. x

The day I passed the final exam that meant I was definitely going away to university.

The joy of knowing that hence forth for good or ill my life was in my hands and that I was going somewhere where no one would know anymore about my childhood than I cared to tell them and their opinion of me would not be based on problems I had as a child.

I have had many wonderful days ........ but the day my daughter, and her now husband, turned up and announced that she was pregnant was the most amazing moment in my life She was 45 and he was to be our first grandchild ...... and we had waited a long time to be grandparents. As MrR, excitedly, sat and chatted to them I just couldn't stop crying! Just thinking about it now is making me emotional.
He is 4 years old now. My son and his wife then gave us our darling granddaughter and in June they are expecting again. Another grandson to be loved We are truly blessed smile
