I agree, and really cannot understand the attraction. A friend's daughter ended up with a nasty eye infection after an evening spent in one. Yuk

We did several long weekends in 5 bedroom properties last year with all the family. I’m on palliative chemo so I wanted to make as many memories for the family as possible. We paid anything up to £1500 per stay but it was for 7 adults and 3 children

Yes, totally gross GSM. 🤮Hot tubs are very unhealthy unless completely and thoroughly cleaned.

Primrose is right, NanaTuesday - hot tubs should be emptied and re-balanced after every set of guests and each week if the stay is longer than a week.

The HSE has plenty of info about letting properties with hot tubs - including checking the water quality twice daily! 😱

My friend arrives after the people has left, first job is empty the hot tub. While that’s happening she starts cleaning inside the house. After the bedrooms she goes and cleans out the hot tub and it’s surround. She then puts the hose in to refill it and goes off to clean downstairs. Her husband checks the water quality and records it but I don’t think twice daily. I have a feeling it’s once for each set of visitors.

She does all the cleaning herself because she knows that most cleaners cut corners.

I wasn't that fussed.It was just part of the deal.

Nearly , £400 of that is for the Pet Passports etc.
Ouch, NanaTuesday! Have you thought of finding a registered vet who does the documents as a sideline at a cheaper rate? We pay £120 ish and he comes to the house to see the dog. I can send you details.

Personally I love an Airbnb we have stayed in many of them over the years both with & without our 2KCC .
We have our favourites in particular areas when visiting family on the coast . Most are reasonably priced & yes it’s always £20 extra per pet , which is fine .
I do out of habit strip the beds & obviously we always leave the place clean & rubbish bagged & binned .
This year we have a 4 week trip in France at a quaint little cottage at a very reasonable rate . In fact with rental , ferry & doggy passports / vaccinations it still comes to a little over £2k total .
Nearly , £400 of that is for the Pet Passports etc .

In the days when we rented a holiday cottage I always stripped the beds and made sure the place was clean before we left.

Yes, some people do but I never ask them to. Some people even hoover up but again, we don’t expect them to.

Some people move everything around, table lamps, chairs, cushions, someone even took breakfast bowls out of one cupboard and swapped with glasses. There must be 12 china mugs in one cupboard but even though we provide a tea pot most people just dip teabags in the same mugs. Over a week they get stained so they put them at the back of the other mugs. First thing I do now is get them out and bleach them! I know all their little ways now, it’s quite funny. 🤣

We've a holiday home on the NE shore, our children are welcome to stay over when we're not using it - they move stuff all round, not something we're fond of at all, but we say nothing.

However, we (and they if they use the house) take linens each go and change out to bare beds /bathrooms when leaving. I dislike musty sea linens - from home they are fresh. Everyone agrees with that!

I really have no understanding of the need to empty & refill a hot tub after each visitor . That is hugely expensive not too mention time consuming.
If you attend to the daily needs of your hot tub checking the levels & adding chlorine tabs as & when required then there shouldn’t be a need to make work for yourself !

I wonder if I am! A friend recommended lodges for a short break. Very little change from £1,000 for 3 nights.

Maybe this is just what things cost nowadays.

Wow that sounds mighty expensive !
But it does depend on these things
1 - The time of Year
2- The Area
3- The facilities- is it a private rent or company
4 - How many is it between because that is a factor lessening how much you pay each
Sometimes you you can find places a lot less expensive ie Airbnb or via Vrbo
But if you are going to one of those places in Norfolk or Bedfordshire then they will come up very costly .

We have a holiday home in France, where we welcome friends and family who want to holiday there when we aren't there and I recognised many of the things Primrose23 describes. In our case, visiters are expected to change sheets and clean. But we have had this problem of things being moved around and put in other places.

One year we couldn't find anything to light the gas cooker, matches and gas lighters, the sparky piezo ones, were all missing. Later in the winte when I was giving the house an annual clean, I stood on a step stool to clean the tops of the kitchen cupboards and there, behind the pelmet was 3 gas lighters and a box of matches.

I could appreciaste putting them out of reach of a child, but to put them right on top of quite tall cupboards!!.

There is no way we would get 3 double hotel rooms for 3 nights for £800, at least not where we want to be. I leave anywhere clean, tidy, load the dishwasher, turn the beds back, but that's it.

I guess your swimming might be a bit wonky after that lot?

That would get me 10 to 14 days all-inclusive in Fuerteventura - with 60 or more mojito cocktails…

All self catering seems to have rocketed. We wanted a shirt break last autumn and couldn't find anything under about £900 for 4 nights in our chosen area. In the end we booked a Premier Inn and had a great time.

The most dog friendly place we know is Pembrokeshire. Our family and friends stay in a 4 double roomed/ three bathroom property with our three dogs for about £800 a week but can be cheaper/slightly more expensive depending on time of year. We go twice a year.
The record number of dogs people have brought with them is 22. As I say it’s very dog friendly

Oreo I am sure some owners are “fussy” but we’re not. I text them to say where the keys are and it’s all ready. I leave them a welcome pack and tell them to ring us if they need anything. I then text them on their last night to tell them where to leave the keys etc. I think in 3 years I have only met 4 people briefly. One of those was a woman who didn’t book her dog in and therefore didn’t pay extra.

Occasionally people have asked if they should strip the beds and I say “No, you are on holiday!” 🙂
