I have eventually cleaned the fridge!!!
It has been on the list since Christmas. I honestly don't remember the last time I did it thoroughly rather than just the sticky bits.

I might even deserve a medal - maybe 'Slut of the Year'?

Afterwards she asked if I’d noticed that she’d found my feather duster and got rid of all my cobwebs. 😮😮

What is it with spiders these days? Since when did they decide they're indoor creatures?
Every time I turn around, there's another web... 🕸️

I did my American fridge freezer last week. My sluttishness is dusting. The TV stand attracts dust, you can see it in certain lights, do it only when I have to, then have to vacuum the carpet under there is something dust

If it’s me, everything in the freezer is boxed/wrapped/poly bagged with use by dates on and I do check those. 🫤
Fridge is more important as there are spillages e.g. milk, and the salad box gets a wash weekly.

Yes.

Unless a few peas manage to escape the freezer stays clean and tidy.

Huge congratulations on Slut of The Year and doing the fridge!

I applaud you, loudly!

It's one of my dreaded things so I let the old man do it!

However, I did do the washing up and got the washing out of the machine about 1:30 this morning while hubby was snoring his head off snuggled in with our cat who was also snoring as she snuggled into his beard!

I was very brave!

I found a mouldy lemon in mine this week and put it in the compost caddy. Does that count?

😂
I was giving a desultory ‘clean’ to the fridge the other day (really just getting rid of crumbs) when I found half a pack of cream cheese with mould running riot.
So that was my feeling of having nobly achieved something that day. 🙂

I try to remember to do ours the day before grocery shopping day - far less stuff to have to remove to be able to wipe the shelves and salad drawer.

Ikiesgranma Mon 22-Apr-24 10:53:12

I regularly batch cook or freeze leftovers. I think I won’t bother writing on the bag as I’ll remember what’s in in it. I don’t remember of course and then it’s a mystery dinner 😂

I found something unidentifiable last week and honestly didn’t know what it was. The penny finally dropped, it was an avocado 🥑

Freezers are completely different, aren't they? Especially if they are frost free.

I solved the problem by buying a new stand alone fridge freezer. I got rid of the under counter fridge and separate freezer that were 20 years old as I could no longer bend down far enough to get to the back of it to clean or even retrieve food. Perfect working order and they went to someone of Freecycle so no landfill grave for them. I did clean them out of guilt but on the kitchen table after they were removed, so much easier, they looked brand new.

Think it’s TillyTrotter as she mentioned cleaning freezers (or not).

Good grief, I'd be unhappy eating anything from your freezer.

Who was this post in reply to?

Lucky that you won’t be doing, then.

This thread has made me laugh so much and made me feel better about not cleaning my fridge - my excuse is its always too full up! I did do a token clean recently when I found a couple of things were a bit sticky - turns out "someone" didn't put the lid on properly on the maple syrup which last got used on Pancake Day, it couldn't possibly have been me!

TillyTrotter Sun 21-Apr-24 17:46:02

I clean the fridge(s) quite regularly (back up old one in the garage),
it is the freezers I put off cleaning.
There doesn’t seem a good time as they are never empty enough.

Today I cleaned out the understands cupboard and sorted out all my toddler grand daughter's toys, books, jigsaws, etc that were piled up in there. I had intended cleaning out thr fridge (it has been on my to do list for about four weeks) but it is in the utility room and I tried to avoid spending time in there. It is a hideous room but as I will be moving in the next year I don't intend fixing it up. I will definitely (maybe) clean the fridge on Tuesday as that is my only day off this week.

kittylester Sun 21-Apr-24 17:37:15

Crikey!

rjack Sun 21-Apr-24 17:31:04

My larder fridge gets completely emptied shelves taken out door shelves as well Then it gets washed out with warm soapy water left to dry and then everything goes back in it's place. I would not think about putting my new shopping into a fridge that has not been thoroughly cleaned. This job gets done every Saturday morning.

merlotgran Sun 21-Apr-24 17:28:23

Last Saturday DD popped in to look after Peggy while I was out all day. Afterwards she asked if I’d noticed that she’d found my feather duster and got rid of all my cobwebs. 😮😮

Well, if I hadn’t noticed them in the first place, how am I supposed to notice when they’re gone?? 😳😳😂

nadateturbe Sun 21-Apr-24 17:16:23

I feel very fussy. I wipe all the surfaces and doorshelves at least once a week, and every 3-4 weeks take them all out and spray clean it. My hob is cleaned every day. My glass oven door is wiped before it cools.
But inside windows rarely cleaned. Maybe every few months.

Patsy70 Sun 21-Apr-24 17:12:35

This just came up on Facebook and seemed appropriate for this thread! 😂

And when you finally do these jobs, then you can’t stop admiring how pristine it all looks, and vow to keep on top of it….

I rarely clean out the fridge, seems to go on OK without me.

HousePlantQueen : Now you come to mention it, I've been trying to ignore those mysterious packets of 'green pond-like mush'. Perhaps they should be donated to the nearest university in case they have medical potential.

Yes, or just become self sufficient in penicillin and poultices! grin
