Brioche buns for burgers

I hate brioche buns when used for burgers! Brioche is sweet. Burgers are savoury. Most restaurants don’t give you a choice and I rarely eat burgers at home and now can’t have one out either. I’ve even considered taking my own white roll with me. Who thought up this abomination of cuisine??

I like brioche and sourdough. Also like most of the bread we have had while abroad which is generally more dense.
We all know that our soft white sliced bread while ok, is nutrionally poor but I heard this week that they are trying to improve the quality of sliced white while retaining the things about it which we do like. 👍

No brioche burger buns for either of us thanks, we get lovely soft rolls freshly baked from the village.

Brioche and sourdough everywhere now, how sad, I'm of the same opinion, they aren't right with meat or sandwichessad

I'd never heard of poutine so I looked it up on Wikipedia. 0h, Yeuk. I won't be trying that any time soon.

Chips with gravy reminds me of Canadian poutine .
It's wonderful on a cold day when you've been outside !

I think gravy on chips is disgusting but haven't felt the need to tell the world until reading this comment.

Ah, the French connection ..... if I remember, brioches originate from Normandy because that's where the best butter is made. And I'm sure I've seen recipes for brioche au brie though the two words aren't linked. 🇫🇷 🧈

The last time I went to a burger place I asked if I could have my burger in a non brioche bun as I don’t like brioche and they were happy to oblige.

No burger baps ? Let them eat brioche!
Just makes me think of Marie Antoinette!
Let them eat cake" is the traditional translation of the French phrase "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche", said to have been spoken in the 18th century by Queen Marie Antoinette upon being told that the peasants had no bread. The French phrase mentions brioche, a bread enriched with butter and eggs, considered a luxury food.

Michelem

I think the biggest reason is the very long date on brioche rolls. They get used before they go stale so it saves waste.
Check the dates next time you're on the supermarket. A good 3 weeks on them.

I agree- they are used because they have a longer shelf life and are therefore cheaper.

It is the saame with any longer life bread- usually has higher sugar content.

I don't eat burgers that often. When I do the brioche annoys me because I doubt I'm getting value for money.

Love a brioche bin with a burger, soft and fluffy, lush.

3 weeks?!! What? More like 3 days, unless those supermarket ones are full of preservatives? Due to the very high egg content, I wouldn't be happy keeping them any more than 5 days maximum.

I was in trendy foodie town Padstow this weekend, and there were definitely brioche bun burgers everywhere, with fish in too.

Thank you.

Some of us do like sweet with savoury - just not these buns with burgers!

And those of us who normally make our own burgers also know what's in them!

Just an aside - as several people assume both burgers and buns are bought in or eaten out.

I like my burgers well done and served in a properly soft white roll (not brioche or a sesame burger bun). Just a good, old fashioned fresh white roll. Add to that a smear of English mustard, an American cheese slice and a thin slice or two of raw onion.

I know I sound like a heathen and I usually like my beef rare and eat artisan cheese but you can't have a rare burger or a slice of good quality cheese on it. American cheese slices melt on a burger and reach the ultimate gooeyness like no other cheese.

Now I'm hungry.

Just had burger for dinner....with a nice soft normal bread roll!

Tbh on the rare occasions I have a burger when I'm eating out I ask for no bun - by the time they've added the salad and chips that's plenty for me.
