Why Are Blokes Obsessed With Noisy Gadgets??

PS I’m not a bloke and I LOVE a gadget!

Oh dear. I’ve not much sympathy really as he’s just keeping his property clean, neat and tidy! We have a power washer and electric mower for our tiny garden and decking.

I have known people spend what seems to be all morning pressure-washing a small drive. I suppose it seems much longer to those who have to listen to the things than the job actually takes. The noise really does spoil the enjoyment of a summer garden. It would be nice if gardeners used power tools when other people are less likely to be sitting outside, so that we can listen to birdsong instead.

Our ex neighbour used to take all week. Constantly stopping and starting up again I kid you not.😳

After installing two large raised beds we now have a much smaller lawn which basically serves as a large path to the greenhouse, the raised beds, the strawberry planters and the washing line so it really doesn't get very long because of all the footfall. We also leave some areas uncut for the wildflowers. I cannot remember the last time we actually used our lawn mower.

Mae I think you should delight in your neighbours happiness! Be glad that he is enjoying doing a good job! Much better than a grumpy neighbour!

I cut my grass with a pair of scissors!

I give gainful employment to my gardener. Why do something that bores you to tears when you can afford to pay someone else to be bored......

we managed to cut the grass but using the power washer anywhere is no good as the water has no where to go.

There’s only one answer because the grass is growing at a rate of knots now - get out that most whining of power tools, the strimmer!

Some people seem to take delight in making a noise. I wish gardeners would be rather more considerate about when they use power tools, and not use them any longer or any more often than absolutely necessary.

In what way would you use a mower or any other power tool longer or more often than necessary, once a job is done there would be no point continuing.

IMO a lot of blokes just love gadgets, whether noisy or not.

We have a power mower, a power strimmer and a leaf blower, though I don’t use it for blowing, just for sucking up. I use them all now and then, but usually it’s dh.

We used to have a power washer but lent it to SiL a couple of years ago and never bothered to get it back. I think dh ordered another but hasn’t used it yet.

He did order a window vac cleaner a few years ago, played enthusiastically with new toy at once, after which it lay unused for over 2 years - until very recently.

If you were paying a gardener who would you rather pay. The guy with the good gear who did it quickly Or the one who did it manually and took a really long time.

We've many pavers in the yards, pavers in the garden paths, and pavers dug in on edge of beds. I love to power wash - removes the dirt and green. I love to blow leaves. And I love to pay a gardener for such as well.

I think people just love yard gadgets!

Am amazed that people find using noisy garden tools 'therapeutic'. The racket certainly isn't that for any neighbours trying to sit outside and enjoy their own gardens in peace on a warm and sunny afternoon. I've heard that in some parts of Germany the use of noisy garden machinery is banned at certain times so that other people can get some peace. We ourselves use an electric lawn-mower, and not very often.

I'd love a power cleaner and now you've reminded me I'll see if I can hire one from our local tool place..

I too love my leaf blower, it is the best thing I have bought. After cutting the hedges with my telescopic hedge trimmer and sweeping up the big stuff, there is nothing more therapeutic than blowing everything into a corner and just picking it up. I have seen other people cut their hedges and just leave them to blow away (on other peoples gardens).

I am a great believer in curb appeal and I would rather have neighbours who take care of their gardens than some who don't give a damn.

I absolutely love my leaf blower. There's something therapeutic about getting outside on a crisp autumn day and making a helluva racket while dealing with all those pesky fallen oak leaves!

I love using my power washer- and anyway its not just men - many men have zero interest in noisy tools.
Why perpetuate these gender specific generalisations?
Do all women like knitting? Do all girls like dolls and boys like football?
Of course not.

My DH also has a garage full of gadgets, half of them barely used. He's never happier than when he's using them or buying another one.

We have a man nearby who has a garage full of gadgets.

All shiny, and hung up in size order.
I always expect a fanfare if trumpets when he opens the garage door.
