It’s not the first statue of the late Queen though, surely? This one, for instance, was unveiled at York Minster just after her death.

I would like to have seen it depicting her in one of her matching coats and hats with a handbag over her arm. It's how I think of her now, bless her.

I thought that. It reminded me of Helen Mirren playing Elizabeth 1. Perhaps they mixed up the models?

I honestly think it's time to put an end to statues of the supposed great and good. They're invariably awful, people rarely flock to see them (benefitting the local economy for example) and they are open to future controversy. I really don't see the point other than giving a sculptor some work.

It's a pity but it doesn't look at all like her.

I just wonder if the sculptor was trying to depict her at different times in her life, but all woven together? Her hair is the way it was when she was a young queen, her face is older, and those hands are those of a very old lady.
I have to say I don't particularly like it though.

Personally I think it’s an unpleasant representation of the QE I remember, it wasn’t sculpted by a republican by any chance.

I like the juxtaposition of the playful wee dogs and the formal figure. I think that sums up the sides of her nature. More subtle somehow.

I think most statues of people are hit and miss, it’s not ugh, but doesn’t capture her.

Not quite as bad as the one of Diana unveiled a couple of years ago but it doesn’t do her justice.

I like it as a work of art - but my lasting impression of the late Queen is that wide smile under broad-brimmed hats, so it's rather alien to me.

No, it doesn’t look like her. I’m not sure statues ever do look like the person they’re supposed to be.

the statues are never a true image are they. remember the one of Diana, no resemblance in my view.

Is that the one with the three corgis looking like they're jumping up? I liked it but maybe more because the wee dogs were so well done.
