Avoid selling on Facebook use a local company with good reviews

My very reliable garage suggested 'webuyanycar.com' and said they are paying a really good price atm

I sold my old car with we buy any car. It was a 15 year old kia picanto. Someone hit the side of it in a supermarket car park and didn't stop. Was still driveable. WBAC gave me £300 for it. I was very happy with that.

I think the difficulty with selling privately is they will need a test drive.

It will be difficult to ensure they don’t drive off in it.

Stay local if you can. I’m from USA so I don’t know your auto outlets there. Please ask around.

With the likes of ‘we buy any car.com’ don’t accept the first price you are offered, enquire on line, get a price, then leave it for a couple of days and they will then offer you a better price, you can do this a couple of times till they get to their max, the final offer still won’t be as good as you’d get selling the car privately but it is less hassle doing it that way. Rubysong, I can only say positive things about webuyanycar.
I don't drive and when DH died last year l needed to sell our car, they were really fair and l got more money than l expected.
The process was really easy and the money was in the account the next day.

They were brilliant, my partners car was like new, he decided to sell when he knew he only had a few months left to live. We got several thousands more than expected. Highly recommended.

A friend sold through WeBuyAnyCar no problem. Don't know if it was just the local branch but she was given a quote and when she took it down to actually trade in the quote was reduced as was now in a different month. Had quote on 22nd month took it in on 3rd of next month. I was with her hence witnessed experience. Check how long quote is valid for if you do go down that route.

There’s no feedback from * ruby* but for others thinking of using ‘webuy etc’ just enter your registration number and follow the links re. mileage and you’ll get a ballpark figure. There’s no pressure to actually follow their offer through.

Selling it privately brings with it a host of issues. Dealing with how you’re going to let them test drive the car. Then breaking you down on the price and haggling. Then writing a receipt with sold as seen with mileage price and there signature on it. Have you thought of how much deposit to secure it if someone wants you to hold it for them. I think if your not confident to have stream of people coming along maybe take others advise re selling it to an organisation.

I've not used FB to sell a car but have read about bad experiences in local news etc. I didn't want to invite anyone to house to look at my car so would not sell privately - who's to say they would not return and demand money back, (even though you sign 'no returns, sold as seen' on a receipt?) I got a quote online from WeBuyAnyCar and was more than happy with it. In fact after COVID quote went up! I did other online research by checking cars for sale with similar specifications and WBAC were being very reasonable. I personally witnessed them assessing cars when they operated from a rented storage facility we were using whilst moving. Nice friendly guys, quite a few ladies, all ages, came on their own - they went round car with them and asked to run engine etc,, really quite busy and quick. Nearest one to our new house is run from a portacabin outside Sainsbury's - so completely out in the open.

Sell to a dealer. We recently sold our caravan to a dealer. Granted we got less than we would have if we had sold privately (£8.5k rather than £9.5k) but it was worth it for the lack of hassle. Dealer transferred the money to me before they collected the caravan.

I also agree that We Buy Any Car is very good. They offered us more than £1500 more than we were offered in part exchange. Very professional. You can get an estimate online as well. Good luck.

I’m interested to read about WeBuyAnyCar/Motorway. I want to sell my car - 14 years old (though low mileage) and rather poor bodywork. I was going to try privately but I too am nervous about the whole thing. Does anyone know if they will literally buy ANY car?!

Yes, hence the name "We Buy Any Car".

We exchanged ours with the dealer we bought the next car from.
A year later we are still getting letters and bailiffs at the door for unpaved parking tickets and pollution charge non payments.
We did notify DVLA at the time, but because he didn't complete his paperwork, or passed ot over when he sold the car, it didn't full change on their records.

We Buy Any Car offered me £1,500 for my husband's car after he died but my local garage bought it for £5,000 so my experience of them was not at all positive.

Have you thought about ‘webuyanycar.com’? All done in one go - and you can get a rough estimate of what you’ll get before you take the car to them.
Granted, they’ll knock the price down for scratches and dings, but it solves the problem of time wasters and tyre-kickers.
It’s what I did with DH’s 4x4 after he died, as I couldn’t face selling it privately.

I used them too when I got rid of my elderly car, they offered the best price of anyone, even better than the part-exchange on my new car. Be warned though, as Georgesgra said, they might knock a bit off when you take it in.

we too used Motorway: and apart from having to take numerous photos at all angles, it was relatively painless and no problems selling within days.

We tried to sell my car on Facebook and Gumtree a few years ago and what a waste of time that was. Too many people saying they wanted the car but couldn’t come in person to see it, would get a courier to come etc., We sold via Motorway as they pay the money in straight away whereas there’s a delay of a few days via Webuyanycar. Really happy with the service from Motorway.

I agree that you’d be safer selling it through ‘We Buy Any Car’, no risks involved.

I have no experience of We Buy Any Car but the comments here are positive. I would definitely use them or a local garage. I wouldn’t want the hassle of trying to sell privately, and certainly wouldn’t want to accompany a stranger on a test drive (nor would I allow them to take the car out on their own). If you’re a woman on her own, why invite trouble?
