That's lovely Sadoldwoman. It's nice to think of these hard working creatures enjoying some R&R in a pleasant place. I hope they're allowed some spoiling. If you see them please feel free to give them a mint from me.

Glad to hear they're better. Poor things. Maybe they can retire to the countryside?

They will go to the Defence Animal Centre in Melton Mowbray for R&R I expect. The regiment there are responsible for these horses. We often see them grazing in the fields, they will looked after very well.

I’m so glad, beautiful horses. I wondered about the dropping of concrete, I do so hope someone didn’t ‘happen’ to do it just to spook them.

This incident raised many questions about safety, care and protection of working horses and the humans who work with them
There are other important issues why not ignore this discussion and start one that interests you

You have a point MOnica, we can be over-sentimental. There's no harm in animals working, in fact I bet they mostly like it because of the bond with humans and the feeling of belonging/usefulness. Everything must be in proportion, and guided by kindness - to humans as well as animals.

“Two horses underwent surgery. One, Quaker, a Cavalry black, has shown significant improvement and progresses towards what is expected to be a full recovery,” the army said in a statement on X.

“The other horse, Vida, a grey, continues to make progress. He remains under close and careful professional veterinary observation as his wounds heal.”

People should be people not just workers. They cannot take much regarding pain and trauma.

The life of horses in the wild is not idyllic, subject to potential death by starvation and thirst, injury and untreated illness, although the injured and sick, soon fall victim to predators, who will kill them by eating them, bit by bit.

I think that everyone that feels the cavalry horses are being exploited should offer to look after one for the duration of it’s life ( possibly 20+ years) and provide a big enough field for it to live in and provide a field shelter for it. And be prepared to visit it at least once a day for those twenty years.

It’s true that horses don’t naturally like to jump. They are sensitive animals and can’t take much regarding pain and trauma.
