Why is gransnet so often afflicted by these? I count eight today. Mumsnet don't appear to have this problem.

How easy are the ‘death spells’ ? Asking for a friend 🤗

I have a friend who was interested too 😃

Pick a proper post add the words ‘bumpity bump’

Hopefully this will push the spam posts down to the bottom of the page, don’t write ‘reported’ because it keeps it at the top of he active list.

I’m off to see if the bumpity bump thing works.

Bluebelle and Willow3 👍

I reported someone recently but other posters admonished me and carried on thanking her for her link, until one other poster realised what was going on!

Has this question ever been asked on Site Stuff?

Does GN take more notice of Site Stuff?

Grandmabatty Wed 01-May-24 11:20:35

And they've started again today

You can report a post or thread without adding another post saying that you have reported it. (That has sometimes been evident when posters have found themselves reprimanded by GNHQ for "breaking guidelines" without ever knowing that their offending post had offended someone, or who it was who reported it)

Wyllow3 Tue 30-Apr-24 18:19:13

Advantages of posting "reported" just once - we know its been done - and prevents GNHQ having huge numbers of others also reporting.

I was wondering too, if it was possible to have the combinations of certain key words automatically preventing their appearance.

BlueBelle Tue 30-Apr-24 17:59:03

I always write reported to a) let others know they don’t need to and b) warn others not to get involved if there is just the one ‘reported’ it doesn’t push it for more than a minute

I think it's good to see 'Reported' in the first post. Just in case some innocent comes along and thinks it's a genuine thread and starts replying to it. Also, it puts a full stop to the thread and everyone can see that's the end of it.

Well, I thought so, but I stand to be corrected.

The thought did cross my mind .....

Farmor, I see your point about alerting GNHQ with more reports, but that does keep the spam thread high up on the Active list. I never report one which has already been reported. Yesterday the reaction from HQ was quick.

Elegran

Does reversing one of their death spells send it onto the spammer? If so . . .

I thought of that.

I post Reported just to alert other posters it has been reported.

I have no idea, but I do wish people would not bother to post 'reported', this only keeps them on the active board, I have reported without needing to say that I have done so.

The point about posting that you have reported the thread is to stop anyone else having to report it. I find that helpful. Just looking at an apparently spam thread doesn't push it up the Active list.

Ì occasionally report a spam thread but never post "reported". If others don't know it's been reported, all the better - the more reports there are, the more likely HQ will take notice and deal with it.

Definitely needs more attention from moderators. They could start a thread including your recommendations, Elegran. If more people post and start new threads on even trivial topics, it would keep the spammer(s) moving down the page.

Grandmabatty Tue 30-Apr-24 15:00:50

I noticed one had posted on its own thread repeating the original post, presumably because it was deleted

The nature of the titles, are very weird, black magic and revenge spells, so many the same, they 're positively breeding like rabbits right now!
