Why is gransnet so often afflicted by these? I count eight today. Mumsnet don't appear to have this problem.

At least they are usually posted in capital letters, making them easy to spot.

HQ really don’t have a handle on this at all do they ?
I don’t see it’s that bad that you need to remove yourselves just ignore them and keep posting on the genuine posts

We are on holiday for 2 weeks anyway, so I won’t be around so much. It seems an ideal time to take a break.

Now they are in the middle of normal posts as well!

I think I might give GN a miss whilst we are away, give Them time to sort this mess out.

Hopefully GNHQ can do something about them - almost the entire first page of the 'active' threads was full of them earlier today.

sodapop Thu 02-May-24 12:17:00

I'm fed up with these stupid posts, think I'll give GN a miss today.

Pittcity Thu 02-May-24 11:40:50

Thank you Lily.
I think we are trying to battle them by adding to threads and knocking them off the Active page.
They are now adding posts to old threads as well as adding new ones.....

Hi all

Just to let you know, we've posted a thread here www.gransnet.com/forums/site_stuff/1335339-Spam-threads-a-message-from-GNHQ

We're aware of these annoying spammers and are currently having discussions about how we can prevent this.

Thanks for your patience.

Interesting subjects - love potions and abortion pills

I have never seen any of the posts or adverts being discussed!!! My DD installed an Ad-block which obviously is very effective. I would say that I sometimes get a message to remove my Ad-block to go further to proceed with whatever but I usually just close up that up and do what I want to do using another area. I do Facebook, Hotmail, Internet shopping, etc on my chromebook. My mobile phone is just that much to the disgust of my famil as I have been "computer literate" since the mid 70's - I just don't want one in my pocket!

GNHQ only seem to be deleting the content, the headlines are still there blocking the feed.

Why do they do this, Pittcity and not complete the job? Do you know?,

Admin have already deleted a whole bunch of them earlier this morning, they are probably having a coffee break.

Elegran Thu 02-May-24 08:57:30

Strategic bump for t***l avoidance. That was fun, only took a few minutes, pasting the same post that I had copied.

On my emails, I can automatically +filter incoming messages for trigger words in the from, title or message fields, and send any that contain them to specific folders, or just delete them unseen.

There must be ways that the GN website can automatically do the same for posts containing trigger words - like "cytotec" for example, which appears in the title of most of these spam posts. Then they would'nt fill up the forums. Being crafty b*****s the spammers probably change the title frequently so as not to have this happen, but alert moderators could add new trigger words to the filter as they appear.

Sparklefizz Thu 02-May-24 08:48:14

Where is Admin for goodness sake???

Cabbie21 Thu 02-May-24 08:40:29

Any OP full of links could surely be deleted automatically I would have thought.
