Spam threads - a message from GNHQ

Hi all,

We're sorry for the enormous amount of overnight spam - we're working our way through removing it all now.

We'll be discussing how we can prevent this in future, so please bear with us.

Surely an original post with links could be automatically detected and removed?

Its not about removing the posts, more about banning the OP and blocking the IP address if possible. That takes longer than just deleting.

Why do HQ respond to each of these threads by saying 'Message deleted' etc, but the threads STILL appear on the 'Last day' list in all their irritation?

I am not an IT genius by any means, but looking at the new posts from these scammers they are constantly starting new threads I imagine they/it are bots.

I thought I'd bump a few interesting threads that would have been pushed off "Active" so I went to the Arts and Crafts forum. Could hardly find any Arts and Crafts threads at all - the top half was all spam!

I don’t know what others think, but I’m finding the constant bumping much more annoying than the spam threads themselves. It’s easy to avoid them.

Perhaps GNHQ can advise as to whether we need to report any new nuisance threads till the onslaught is over? They’re obvious enough from the titles.

Is it possible to remove them from the Active list too?

Normally, when deleted, they disappear completely.
