When I was about 10 years old I asked my Mum where babies came from
She said Woolworths. I searched for them but couldn't find them !
Spider deterrent……. Not….🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️
This is an actual extract from a sex education textbook for girls, printed in the early 1960's in the UK. As far as we have come, we have so far to go!!
“When retiring to the bedroom, prepare yourself for bed as promptly as possible. Whilst feminine hygiene is of the utmost importance, your tired husband does not want to queue for the bathroom, as he would have to do for his train. But remember to look your best when going to bed. Try to achieve a look that is welcoming without being obvious. If you need to apply face cream or hair-rollers wait until he is asleep as this can be shocking to a man last thing at night.
When it comes to the possibility of intimate relations with your husband it is important to remember your marriage vows and in particular your commitment to obey him. If he feels that he needs to sleep immediately then so be it. In all things be led by your husband's wishes; do not pressure him in any way to stimulate intimacy. Should your husband suggest Congress then agree humbly all the while being mindful that a man's satisfaction is more important than a woman's. When he reaches his moment of fulfillment a small moan from yourself is encouraging to him and quite sufficient to indicate any enjoyment that you may have had.
Should your husband suggest any of the more unusual practices be obedient and uncomplaining but register any reluctance by remaining silent. It is likely that your husband will then fall promptly asleep so adjust your clothing, freshen up, and apply your night-time face and hair care products. You may then set the alarm so that you can arise shortly before him in the morning. This will enable you to have his morning cup of tea ready when he awakes.”
Good idea!!!!
**NB Imjust read it to my DH before I put on my face cream 🤣

I trained as a nurse in the 1970s and included in the initial training, was quite thorough sex education. This surprised me, but apparently was because there were still incidences of people (presumably mainly women) being completely ignorant. Whilst I knew more than the basic facts already, it did increase my understanding. Btw the article quoted in the op is hilarious.
I didn`t even find out how babies came out until I went into hospital in labour! I was calling out my husband`s name (they weren`t allowed in in those days) and the midwife said "He can`t do anything for you love, just keep pushing!"
Nanatuesday. That’s hilarious. This is obviously from an era when the word obey was included in the wedding vows and seems very outdated now. The word congress is a strange, rather euphemistic one. My mum told me nothing about sex, nor how babies were conceived and I learnt it from hearing some older schoolgirls talking about it. Until then, I’d got a vague idea, but had imagined the actual sexual act in a very different way! I don’t remember having sex education at school either. This was mid/late 1960’s. As an older teenager, I once heard my mum and grandmother discussing sex and they both agreed that they’d “rather have a cup of tea”.

The article has been circulating online for years. There has never been proof of its source (where or when it originated). It's considered a contemporary spoof.
It's been on gn a couple of times.
My mum gave me a little booklet but she had sellotaped the pages beyond ‘starting periods’ down so I couldn’t read them
Bless her 🤣🤣🤣
Sexual congress = engaging in sexual intercourse.
Not sure it's an odd word is it?
Archaic maybe now but used a lot in the past
In 1962, when I started going out with DH, my mother gave me a lilies talk. No word of a lie she told me only, to never show a man my shoulders. I was never able to ask her why .
Can someone please tell me what is this all about - especially ‘congress’
Utterley brilliant!
I seem to remember my late beloved Mother giving me a little talk and handing me a booklet (I was raised Catholic so it was probably provided by the church; I think there was an "Our Lady" picture on the front) but I can't remember reading it or what it said.
There was nothing formal at school(convent) that I remember except for biology lessons.
Thank God for friends
I guessed as much OldFrill
I googled and found a popular book for boys in Australia which sold a huge number of copies.
I will try to post a photo of the cover.
Nowadays there are probably you tube videos to show every thing you need to know. 🤣

When I was at my all girls grammar school a girl in the sixth form was expelled for having a copy of Lady Chatterleys lover in her school bag.
My parents were given a copy of a book on sex education at the first meeting with the headmistress. Mum told me it was a book about the history of the school.
I never saw it again until years later when I found it in a cupboard by chance.

In my secondary school in 60s sex education was non existent. I remember in what was then called Domestic Science and Home Management we were doing a project on forms of heating within the home.
We were encouraged to cut pictures from magazines and stick them on the classroom wall. One morning we had a visit from the head teacher, a very unpleasant nun.
She approached the wall and tore one of the pictures from it and binned it after telling the class it was disgusting. It was an advert for electric blankets. It featured a couple lying flat on their backs asleep in bed with the covers at shoulder level. The tips of the woman’s shoulders on view were bare 😆
I read The OP earlier today and have since come to the conclusion that it didn't say anything about actual sex, or mention such issues as consent or contraception. I wonder what the rest of the booklet had to say.
Scroll up the read and you will see!

Have I missed something please?
Is there a lot of spam?
Why are people bumping?
Thanks.
My thoughts also ?
That was not exactly representative of the 1960s I knew!
More like ‘extreme 1950s’ in the sort of publication a prudish old maiden aunt would have read.
I do remember a middle-aged biology teacher (mid 1960s again) offering a session where we could submit anonymous written questions for her to answer in class.
One was about contraception, to which her answer was a very firm and tight-lipped, ‘This is something no NICE girl needs to know about until she’s married!’ 😂
Oh, and I do remember copies of Lady Chatterley’s Lover being sold in Boots - all in brown paper bags, by giggling assistants!
Bump
Bump.
Seems that we can’t ge5 rid of these ads/scam posts…
I remember reading the juicy bits of Lady Chatterley’s Lover on the school bus. One of the older girls brought it disguised in brown paper and we passed it round keeping it open at the relevant pages.

Mick is so far down the active page he’s nearly back in yesterday 😳
