The posts about witchcraft ,spells and the like .

Two minds is true. I am not sure how much difference it makes to those who read the posts whether or not they see that someone else has reported each. Some people report everything, some don't ever report anything, others may think they don't need to report them if someone else has.

The important thing is to report them whenever you can - it may give GNHQ more posts to read, but the more reports there are, the more of an impact our opinions have.

I am in two minds, I reported posts, and did not post reported, but Marydoll has a point about only putting reported once as it let's posters know it has been dealt with.

It would involve rewriting chunks of the code that runs the site pages, to deal differently with the posts that are received for the forums, then closing down the site while the files containing the instructions replace the old files.

The site would then have to be tested to check that it all still works OK ( I am sure you have all had those updates that are supposed to improve how your device works, but end up scrambling something else because of a single instruction in the middle of several thousand lines of code) If there are no glitches, either in what was being chamged or anywhere else in the site, (because the whole of the instructions are interlinked) the site can be opened up again.

If not, it is back to the drawing board to find the glitch and fix that, then retest.

At the moment, posts received are automatically sent (I assume) to the thread where they were written, unless they are from a banned poster. That would have to be changed to first run each through a filter to check whether they were the first posting from a new member, whether they included words that gave a clue to them being spam, plus any other clues in the email address of the poster, the country or email provider they came from, and so on.

That would involve the software searching through various lists and databases for possible reasons to isolate each post until it could be double-checked by a real human (otherwise innocent posters could find themselve banned because they had said something like "I hate all these posts offering witchcraft")

Then the software would have to decide what is to happen to each post intercepted, and present the resulting lists to the moderator on duty at the time to do the human double-check.

When everything is working properly, the site could re-open to posters - who by then would be flooding the site themselves with demands to know what was going on.

All this code-writing and testing takes time, and is not something that moderators coud do in between their other tasks - and which they are probably not qualified to undertake. Coding is a skill. It would also take money. Good coders don't come cheap.

Well, as far as I know, it's not as old as Mumsnet.

They need to target their audience though - grandparents and abortion pills just don’t go together.

As for the spells, I could do with one for DD’s ex, I have been using Phoenix’s curse for a while but I think he has become immune 🤣🤣🤣

I have just reported two new threads from the same poster, I didn’t post reported on them as this just keeps them active 😡

Why isn't it possible for there to be an automatic filter that picks up key words like witch craft and spells and then automatically deletes them and bans the poster?

Would like advice from HQ as to what they prefer, am doing this atm. I'm presuming these attacks are from multiple IP's or they would have got rid some time ago.

I never check out companies before reporting them . If I don't know who is emailing , texting or phoning I deleted it. To many scammers out there .

Some of the adverts we see on GN are companies that we have been browsing on previously and are specifically target at us.
I keep getting ones from Monday and Pelle, where I do shop.
I really should delete my cache ( browsing history.)

I reported an advert that appeared on the health forum in the early hours. Via GN report system . Just had an email from the company I reported. Have asked GNHQ who has access to our email addresses?

Maybe it is some box or other you have or have not ticked?
Though I wouldnt have thought that would make a difference.

I will have a look sometime which email address I am using for GN. And maybe switch it to another one.
