Which part of “abroad” are we talking about - it’s a big place.
It’s easy enough to cross the Channel by Eurostar , ferry or the Shuttle if you are driving after which a large chunk of “abroad” is your oyster. There are train holidays, coach holidays, river cruises etc so you should be able to avoid flying if that is a problem.
