Do you ever erupt like a volcano

I just did. Earlier this evening, everything got on top of me. All of a sudden I realised all the things I was doing for other people and couldn’t think of anything that other people were doing for me. Out of the blue I exploded. I think I probably said the F word about 50 times. That is almost 50 times more than I have ever used it in my life. I have worked out how to calm myself down and move on. I just wanted to ask if anyone else had ever felt that angry and if so what do you do?

Only once in my life when EE, then Orange disconnected disabled DD2’s phone for no reason. They said she hadn’t paid her bill, but it came out of my account with mine! That day, she was driving from Sheffield to Newcastle in dreadful conditions and out of contact. I was furious - it turned out someone in Guilford had fraudulently ordered a brand new iPhone using her details and Orange had suspended DD2’s service without a word of warning.
Otherwise, I’m an extremely calm person.

Exactly the same thing happened to my son some years ago.
Someone bought a phone in his name with EE . Said he hadn't paid the bill. It was an absolute nightmare trying to sort it out.

..

Hopefully your 'explosion' didn't cause you to have an aneurysm. Or him to have a further one!

As a young teacher I learned very early on that when you lose your temper, you lose control
So no, erupting “like a volcano” sounds intemperate, pointless and ultimately unimpressive in any situation.

mabon1 Thu 09-May-24 13:40:23

Never and don't swear either. Keep my mouth firmly shut always.

sodapop Thu 09-May-24 13:26:19

I used to lose my temper frequently when I was younger but not so much now I am well past my three score years and ten. I do make sarcastic comments when something makes me cross.

Daddima I think we are all well used to biglouis extreme comments now.

I don't like to argue as I'm not very good with conflict but, if someone pushes me, I tend to became sarcastic and twist their words to throw back at them. Really, really push me or catch me when I'm in a take no sh*t mood and I'll let rip. I never used to get angry and the first time it happened I thought I was having a heart attack as my heart was pounding and I couldn't breathe. A friend, who was with me at the time, laughed and explained what was happening. She suggested the F word as the hard sounds are very therapeutic. So now, usually when I'm alone, I'll swear the anger out. If I swear directly at you then you know it's time to run for cover grin

Never be ashamed of the language you use to vent your anger. I know from experience that if you don't show/feel anger then it simply festers and you turn it on yourself.

Oh yes, I explode and then it's all over very quickly. I got the red mist once when a mugger tried to grab my handbag. I sprang at him I was so angry, I would have killed him. He ran away. All this accompanied by rude words I didn't know I knew.

I used to, before the menopause. I remember once when I put down the meal I’d cooked (after a full day at work) and my beloved husband said “Not mince again!” I picked up his plate, opened the front door and threw the lot onto the pavement, much to the shock of passers by!

Juicylucy Thu 09-May-24 13:13:34

I’m a true Gemini I’m very calm but boy when I loose it, I loose it. Rarely happens but when I do people know I mean business.

hilz Thu 09-May-24 13:11:13

Me.. now I can't say it's never happened but since hormones abandoned me mild irritation is my default. Of course the odd expletive passes my lips. No one is perfect after all.

undines Thu 09-May-24 13:02:34

Yes, and I make no apology. And I do utter the F word. And the red in my hair is not all henna!

sazz1 Thu 09-May-24 12:49:50

I'm very laid back quiet and try to be helpful and kind. But if anyone is rude or nasty to me the first time I just ignore it. The second time I'm positively evil and totally destroy the other person with very harsh words criticising everything about them. I'm sorry afterwards but it's too late then. They never come back to upset me again

pooohbear2811 Thu 09-May-24 12:48:42

never use to but awaiting various tests for various medical conditions and I am in pain a lot of the time, and will argue back with hubby and like others I can get very sarcastic as well as volatile. I never used to be like this but his stupidity is getting worse and he will argue black is white rather than listen to reason from me.

silverlining48 Thu 09-May-24 12:46:07

I don’t get angry, if anything I internalise as don’t like confrontation but on the very rare, count on one hand occasions in my life when I have been very upset I frighten myself with the level of my rage. 😡

sandelf Thu 09-May-24 12:41:14

It has happened. I hate it - burns you somehow. And if directed at another person it never hurts them as much as it hurts me. Have learnt 'HALT' - don't let yourself be Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired all at the same time - and NEVER let partner and you be in that state simultaneously - guaranteed hurtful rows.

Mollygo Thu 09-May-24 12:40:20

I used to swear in a sort of chant on the way home from work when I’d been hassled by a parent. It saved me trouble at work and lowered my blood pressure.
I did erupt recently, involving deities and swear words when I dropped a personalised mug my DGD had just bought me. Fortunately I was able to obtain a replacement before she next visited.

nexus63 Thu 09-May-24 12:34:49

i don't explode but my voice gets very clipped, if it is someone i don't know i start saying things like, okay, yes thats fine, whatever makes you happy or the older lady who pushed me out of the way to get to a till that was opening (i was in sarcastic mode) yes you go ahead...after all you have less time to live than i do, i was younger and had a child with the want want want in the shop with me.

grannybuy Thu 09-May-24 12:28:19

I might lose it when by myself, including swearing, but not usually with anyone else. However, one day I was so angry with my adult son, who lives with me and who has learning difficulties, that I called out as he walked away, “ I don’t give two s-h _ t-s.” ( spelling it out ). He turned and smugly said, “ I think you spelled that wrong mum, it’s ‘ h-o-o-t-s ‘ .” It would never have occurred to him that I’d swear! It was so funny that I couldn’t stay angry.

suelld Thu 09-May-24 12:25:42

Only when I see that ‘Orange Turd’ Trump on the TV!

V3ra Thu 09-May-24 12:20:42

Really angry? Yes, recently when I realised I'd booked the wrong hotel at Heathrow. I went to bed really upset with myself for not checking that the Terminal 5 hotel and the Terminal 5 carpark were next to each other. OH has booked everything else for the holiday; I just had one job.....

Awww lixy don't be too hard on yourself, you're not the only one!
My husband managed to get us to the wrong hotel at Charles de Gaulle airport one winter. Mum and Dad were waiting for us at the right airport hotel.
So his answer was to ask if we could change their booking to the wrong hotel and all stay there, instead of admitting his mistake and us moving on to the right hotel... which we did, me with gritted teeth and the poor receptionist completely baffled by this strange man.
Like you say, one job... 🤦

In most arguments I use very hurtful sarcasm and the looks which imply that the other person is something particularly filthy beneath my shoe. When I go nuclear I am capable of extreme verbal (and physical) violence which scares most people so much that they avoid me thereafter. I once told someone I would cut their throat and drink their blood while advancing with a freezer knife. It was a burglar and he jumped 16 feet from the balcony in fright.

Strange that nobody has commented on this, don’t you think?
This would definitely count as a volcanic explosion.

Thank you all for responding to my post. Some comments made me laugh while others made me sad. It is nice to admit that we are humans. I take the advice that we should deal with problems as they arise. Good advice but sometimes quite hard to do when no one listens. Thanks ladies and best wishes.

mrsgreenfingers56 Thu 09-May-24 12:09:05

Just once and surprised myself, found out husband having affair and I gave it to him with both barrels. Told him to F off and never ever use that word, really don't and think vulgar but you know what they say "There is no hell like a woman scorned"

cc Thu 09-May-24 12:05:00

I very occasionally explode, when my husband has been unreasonable/impossible for hours. I hate doing it but he really does drive me too far.
