Prince Harry will not meet the King during UK visit.

Seems a bit harsh? All that way too. He landed in the UK a few hours ago. Without Meghan and the children.

From the Telegraph just now:

“ The Duke of Sussex will not meet the King this week, the Telegraph can reveal.

Prince Harry, 39, landed in London on Tuesday morning and had made no secret of his hopes to see his father during his visit.

But a spokesperson for the Duke said: “In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not The Duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme.

“The Duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”

I just think if the King doesn't ’find time’ to see his son then Harry might well just think ‘sod it’ next time/if he comes over.

I know Harry bad mouthed the family in his book ‘Spare’ but still …

What do you think?

Do we know Harry would be incandescent with rage?
Is that our slant on things?

I was just trying to make the point that he is happy to invade other people's privacy in the most intimate ways but continually bangs on about his own privacy. So we can assume (and I accept it is only an assumption before I am jumped on) what sort of reaction he would have towards such a personal comment.

Yes, I do get your point, and I agree with it.
It's just that it is supposition on both our parts.

Absolutely Annie and Smileless.
I think it’s possible to imagine that you understand estrangement without having experienced estrangement, but actually it’s not, unless you are an extremely empathetic person. Some people are of course, but for most people, the pain is difficult to imagine. To be estranged from your child is worse than estrangement from a sister, and I find the estrangement from my sister painful enough. Estrangement appears to often happen after an adult child marries. Of course this doesn’t apply to me because it was my sister, but I think it possibly happens sometimes after marriage because the new partner cannot accept their spouse’s family and seeks to isolate them from their family. I’m speculating but think this maybe the cause. We had some of this with my daughter and her husband and again, it was painful, but they’re now getting divorced and so her husband was ultimately unsuccessful in his endeavours to isolate her from us.

I still think Charles and William need to make their own decisions about how to proceed. It’s not helpful to suggest that surely Charles could find time to see his son, or that parents should always forgive. It’s not us, it’s them, and they need to find their own way through this without advice from us.

I’m sorry, I’ve missed a few posts. I was writing when my daughter rang from New Zealand, so I’ll go back and catch up on the posts I’ve missed.

And yet the thread is 20 odd pages full of Meghan's dress, her feet, her pretending to be of Nigerian heritage, her touching her husbands back...

grin
I thought Meghan delivered well on the wardrobe front .... by that I mean she gave some of us stuff to chat about! (And dont forget Glorianny and I had an indepth discussion on Meghan's gardening gloves last time). Meghan's biggest coup was the Nigerian cloth skirt she put together with a plain shirt. Good on her!

I have managed not to see anything except her wearing a nice cream dress thing, and looking glowing, happy and healthy.

That'll do for me.

No we don’t, but it isn’t hard to imagine that neither Harry nor Meghan would be delighted.
I can’t imagine anyone would be happy about such personal information being shared worldwide.

MissAdventure Mon 13-May-24 11:39:30

I'd kill him if he was my husband and told everyone about my periods!

Some of these speculations add fuel to the fire, though, I think.

Say them often enough and they become "true", and something else for people to get angry about.

maddyone Mon 13-May-24 11:44:10

That’s why I keep saying they need to work through it themselves MissA.
We are not judge, jury, and executioner.
They are a family and families need to work out what to do for themselves. It appears that Charles did not wish to meet with Harry last week. We should all respect that decision.

Sparklefizz Mon 13-May-24 11:49:40

It appears that Charles did not wish to meet with Harry last week.

Actually the media have said that, but a courtier is reported as saying that Harry never requested a meeting.

Charles offered Harry a place to stay but H preferred a hotel.

Anniebach Mon 13-May-24 11:57:08

Charles loves his sons, he did much to make Megan welcome,
she was the first fiancée to be invited to spend Christmas with
the family at Sandringham, Harry said it was wonderful how she was welcomed. Charles even escorted her to the alter on
her wedding day, yet she turned on them

Well there we are.
Nobody actually knows the truth.

Once again, I say I am no fan of this pair, but I have never heard of him ‘ continually banging on’ about his privacy, nor him saying they were leaving Britain to live a private life.
I thought his problem was the way Meghan was treated and reported upon by the media in this country ( despite her saying she never read anything, good or bad), and the media’s twisting of their words ( like about the RF’s ‘racism’).

Biggest insult is Megan sat in the airport while harry popped around to do his thing. I think it’s an insult after we paid for her wedding she isn’t good for him. I’d never forget that bow she did taking the mick out of our queen no respect at all

Anniebach Mon 13-May-24 12:35:31

There were several reasons they left , Megan said-
Not many asked if I was ok,
my passport was taken from me, she still managed to fly to
America.
The,alleged questions about her unborn child’s,skin colour
he child wouldn’t be given a title,,another lie

Do you mean because she met him at the airport before they went to Nigeria? Why was that insulting?

And again, I am definitely not a fan, but how was the ‘bow’ taking the mick’? She said that in America they have ‘ Mediaeval Dinner and Tournament’ and she curtsied as if she was at that. I think she was trying to be funny, and give the impression that she had no idea about royals . Why do so many people think it was disrespectful to the queen?
He looked embarrassed when she did it, and no wonder.

Anniebach Mon 13-May-24 12:39:46

It was offensive, she was mocking a very elderly lady

NotSpaghetti Mon 13-May-24 12:45:50

I much prefer the Ortiz outfit she wore the other day Joseann. This wrap-around fabric doesn't flatter her body shape - though I think it's probably a good move "politically". I think the Ortiz dress looked really lovely.

RosiesMaw Mon 13-May-24 12:50:55

I read this today too. Apparently "recollections still vary" but all the abuse heaped on the King might seem to be just a tad undeserved and out of order.
However given that it is nearly a week since the visit/non visit in question, is it not time to draw the speculation discussion to a close?

GrannySomerset Mon 13-May-24 13:13:50

Spoil sport, Maw!

maddyone Mon 13-May-24 15:01:53

Yes it is Maw, and let’s leave them to sort it out, or not, as they wish to, in privacy.

Anniebach Mon 13-May-24 15:29:57

Sadly Harry doesn’t do privately

maddyone Mon 13-May-24 15:32:20

No, that is true Annie.
