Prince Harry will not meet the King during UK visit.

Seems a bit harsh? All that way too. He landed in the UK a few hours ago. Without Meghan and the children.

From the Telegraph just now:

“ The Duke of Sussex will not meet the King this week, the Telegraph can reveal.

Prince Harry, 39, landed in London on Tuesday morning and had made no secret of his hopes to see his father during his visit.

But a spokesperson for the Duke said: “In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not The Duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme.

“The Duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”

I just think if the King doesn't ’find time’ to see his son then Harry might well just think ‘sod it’ next time/if he comes over.

I know Harry bad mouthed the family in his book ‘Spare’ but still …

What do you think?

It must be remembered this is Harry's team that are doing the announcements, it really isn't necessary to make any reply to enquiries. "That's a private matter, there will be no official announcements" is sufficient.

I imagine Charles is still deeply hurt by the criticisms and barbs aimed at Camilla, and William likewise about Catherine. I wonder if either Charles or William had made similar public comments about Meghan, would Harry still be eager to meet them? I rather doubt it.
It is a shame when there's family estrangement, and when it is as public as this one is, it must add to the mix. Personally I'd find it very hard to trust Harry, and there would only be very stilted, formal conversation as I'd need to be content with details of it being shared. Not a recipe for healing splits.

I agree Helter-skelter they quite possibly will find time to meet.
I don't think Charles holds grudges or Camilla. Not so sure about H&M!

He's persona non grata with most of the royal family. "Prince Harry invited William and other senior members of the Royal Family to the service but none of them are expected to attend. Among the royals who could attend include his cousins Zara Tindall and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, but there has been no confirmation of this. Harry is expected to stay at a hotel in London because he no longer has Frogmore Cottage in Windsor."

Must be chilly out there on his own. Oh dear. What a shame. Never mind.

Harry flew in to see the King when it was made public the King
had cancer, the following day he gave an interview to an American tv company

It's good to see the spirit of Christianity is alive and well anyway. What's that story? Oh yes The Prodigal Son!!

H and M, sold stories of The Royal Family, had interviews, ditched their duties (kept their titles) slated Camilla and Kate. Told lies publicly, if they wanted to offer the olive branch, an a public apology and telling the truth might be a start. Their star is fading in America. , I don’t see Charles or William forgiving easily, nothing will be OK. Personally I would strip the pair of their titles, Charles and Kate don’t need any more drama, no more stress, just get well. Let that toxic pair stay where they are.

I think if any parent wanted to see their estranged child who lived thousands of miles away, however busy they might be, they woukd find an hour to see their son or daughter.
Even a busiest king coukd do that if he wanted too.
Charles hasn’t been seen for months. When my dd had 4 surgeries and 14 intensive chemo cycles she continued going to work in between cycles, despite feeling wretched for half the time, no one suggested otherwise.

Your daughter is 76 ?

M0nica Tue 07-May-24 15:54:21

silberlinings The King has been working through out his treatment, just not making personal appearances. He is nearly 76 and most people his age are at best retired or only working a few hours a week.

It takes two to tango and both the King and his son need to want to meet for a meeting to take place.

Estrangement is a deeply personal family issue, who knows what is happening within the royal family on this issue.

‘ Hasn’t been seen for months’?

Didn’t he visit a cancer centre, and also went to a horse show? I believe he also was seen at church at Easter.

They could be planning to meet up. And just not telling the bloody gutter press or the creepy "royal correspondents".

Damned if they do and damned if they don't. What on earth has it got to do with Joe Public.

A bit more than just the book though.

And slagging off Camilla is about the worst thing they could have done. Bet Charles would forgive certain things, but not criticising his ‘darling wife’.

What do I think?
I don’t know what meeting Harry is anxious to have so I don’t know if it will not be possible for the king to fit in a visit as per Harry’s demands or expectations.
There would have been equal adverse comments had Harry not said he wanted to see his father.
I do know that he’s succeeding in making it about poor Harry again.

I should have used the brackets! confused

I think its Meghan's fault.
I haven't worked out how, yet, but I will.

The King is undergoing cancer treatment and doesn't need the stress of seeing Harry. Any meeting would be like walking on eggshells, trying not to say anything that will appear in Spare 2. I suppose Oprah & Co will make a big deal of poor Harry being cold shouldered. He is reaping what he and Meghan have sown.

Given the way Charles criticised his own parents and they never cut him off it's a bit pathetic isn't it.
His mother was "distant" and his father a "bully".
Perhaps he's forgotten what he said.
Anyway it's ridiculous not having time to see his son.

But actually we don’t know whether it’s true that he won’t be seeing Harry either. We know what the official line is, but if you want to keep something private you can, who knows. You are speculating, the same as everybody else.

Katie59 Tue 07-May-24 15:14:19

After what Harry has deliberately done being “cold shouldered” is the least he could expect, the last time he came he didn’t stay long.
I can imagine the conversation -
“thank you for visiting Harry, you’ve had your photo opportunity now clear off back to your tart in LA”.

Perhaps after the vicious comments about his wife, the King does not trust Harry, or want to be in his company. I just wish Harry & his awful other half would do what the Windsors did, and stay well away.

Agree

Cross post, G!

Posters seem to forget that Charles ‘badmouthed’ his parents in a book and on national television. He condemned their parenting. And of course Diana was interviewed on television and cooperated with a book.. Worst of all is Andrew who encouraged his mother to pay millions of pounds to a woman he said he had never met.

Smileless2012 Tue 07-May-24 15:02:06

Well it's not as if he's travelled so far just to see his father is it.

Casdon Tue 07-May-24 14:59:03

I agree Urmstongran. There is so much speculation, but the only actual fact we have is that last time Harry was in the UK his father saw him for a few minutes. It’s quite possible that there is estrangement to the point that Harry is using the media as his only contact - but who knows whether that’s the case or not - certainly not the media.
