The Met Gala !

Not sure that the BAFTAS ard quite in the same league Jax but thank you.

Another parade for perusal, the BAFTAS are tonight, the ‘celebs’ are arriving.

With names like Bad Bunny and Doja Cat, its not surprising there were some dubious outfits about!

I would prefer not to look at the fashions and find I am only thinking "is she wearing any underwear" but as previously been posted it is for charity and if they want(as my grandmother used to say)to put all their goods in the shop window, then it's their choice. I do wonder though- The Garden of time- how do these designs link with the theme? There's more cover on my roses than some of these women.

Casdon Naomi Campbell can usually be relied on to wear something elegant. It probably helps if you've got a figure like hers though.

It's become a parody of itself. I guess you can look at it in different ways.

Shallow, vacuous "celebs" trying to be as outlandish and left of centre as possible (to get attention I suppose) or an opportunity for those involved to push boundaries and challenge we mere more mortals into rethinking our views on what's acceptable and what's attractive or eye catching.

A brilliant PR opportunity for designers to step outside their normal identity and get their name out there.

The disappointing thing about the mainstream reporting is that we tend to only see the most bizarre - when in fact there are some beautiful creations worn but you really have to search for them.

Well, I love the Met Gala outfits! It is a charity ball, and there is always a theme. Fashion designers work for months on their looks, and since there are 450 guests, some will no doubt try to be a bit outlandish to gain attention. All the couture and jewels are on display.

Fashion is mostly practical in our day to day outfits, but there is a time to pile on the creativity and luxury to showcase all that is possible in clothing the human form.

There were some really beautiful dresses too though, they just didn’t get the headline coverage. Just look at this gorgeous one Naomi Campbell was wearing.

This "charity" event is for the Costume Institute.A place where they house the worlds most comprehensive costume collection.Hence the outrageous costumes on the celebs.They have a different theme every year and this one is 'The Garden of Time's...says it all really 🙄

I agree completely. It’s the same with singers, male singers get to bop about a stage in t shirt and jeans but women have to show off as much flesh as possible. I wonder what Rita Ora’s husband really thought of her being practically naked in public. I’m just as disappointed by the women in this years Eurovision, some of the acts are verging on soft porn (although Olly Alexander is guilty of that as well). I miss seeing the beautiful dresses women used to wear.

That waist was ridiculous and all the bits that should be in the middle of the body were pushed out top and bottom
Absolutely ridiculous call it art if you wish but if it’s art it should be on a wall not restricting a body and teaching young how to look stupid and harm themselves

I truly am calling out Kim Kardashian for the waist cinching that drew gasps from the crowd. I agree that attention seeking females trying to outdo each other are setting the wrong example for young girls.

Perhaps Kim will suffer long-term effects for this organ shuffling around in her body? How can that not affect your system?

Especially in this era the more females scream for respect it seems like they are turning the page on that by strutting around in the most elaborately slut exposed clothing. I bet here are some men who are even turned off by that. Classless.

All that aside - there’s a THEME every year by which to design your gown and there were some very creative and lovely feminine outfits.

Let’s compare these risqué dresses to some of the gowns women wore in movies in the 1930’s, 40’s… No Bras(!), backless, sideless, “girls” just swinging around with aroused nipples. Was that scandalous then?

Don’t get me started, and then there’s Eurovision. Not what it was.

I agree Midnightblue - and amazing museums such as The Met and our V&A have fantastic facilities for study too.

I see it as clothes as art. I’ve been to several art galleries with special clothes exhibitions, with outfits like this.

As ‘art’, I don’t think they were meant to be practical. I enjoyed looking at them. A shame though, that women want to have surgery to reshape their bodies.

On the other hand Sir Lewis Hamilton looked divine!

Hilarious that many of the ladies couldn’t even walk in their dresses without help from a flunky.

May be, as you say… too revealing and provocative, however I choose to think of it a a form of walking contemporary art … which I think is how the couture and textile glitterati choose to express it … made all the more visible by the media and use of stars …

Someone called Lizzo, apparently a 'rapper/singer' looked like a Sea Devil from Dr Who in the 1970's!
