A lot of the women looked like porn stars. And I’m no prude but hey - at a red carpet event?

Some examples.

They mostly look plain ridiculous. I think most young girls (certainly the ones I know) would think so, too.

I only saw it on a news programme So stupid some had to be carried up and down steps because the clothes wouldn’t let them move, one woman’s waist was so tiny with big hips and bust either side it took hour glass figure to another level she looked totally wrong I saw Ed Sheren get his foot caught in a big loop off one dress

I agree that the fashions get more outrageous each year, the main purpose of the Gala is to raise money for charity.

Tickets start at $50,000, when you add in raffle and or auction it raises $millions.

I went to the "Crown to Couture" exhibition at Kensington Palace last year. Some of the exhibits were garments worn at previous Met Galas, and were more outrageous than those I've seen from this year. Others were lovely, with exquisite beading and embroidery. Lots had the women viewing saying "how would you sit down, or how would you go to the loo!" The male outfits at that exhibition, while some a little outlandish, nonetheless would all accommodate sitting, moving and going to the loo.......

It’s become like Disneyland,” says one fashion source on the question of why so many now stay away. “It’s just costume, it’s not fashion, it’s not elevated in any way.” The event has degenerated into a “merry-go-round of social media-fuelled hype,” he suggests.

One fashion insider puts it bluntly: “When I go to the zoo, I want to see an elephant, a lion and a tiger,” she says. “But the Met Gala is now full of meerkats.”

I don’t care how bizarre the outfits are, it’s funny. I do think see through is so tacky though, there’s no need to go naked to get noticed, it just makes you look cheap. Rita Ora, what on earth were you thinking?

I admit to only seeing a little of it on the news - what's it all about anyway?
Do they know how utterly ridiculous some of them look? The woman who had to be carried up the steps, some Kardashian woman with a cinched in waist so tight she was gasping to get any air and another needed several men to keep rearranging her dress so she didn't fall flat on her face.

What a charade! And what a message to send out to young girls. There was nothing attractive or beautiful in the ones I saw.

I’ve seen photos of some of the dresses and just had to roll my eyes. Others were lovely.

I admit to pondering how on earth Cardi B would have managed to go to the loo, given that it took nine men to carry her dress and also whether Nicki Minaj sounded like off-beat wind chimes as she clanked along the (green) red carpet in her metallic flowers. 😂

Love Dolly Parton, a lovely human, so down to earth, there's no side to her at all.

I love the Met Gala outfits (and the after-party ones). I confess that I could barely name any of the attendees but I do love the theatre of it all, the costumes and inventiveness.

I love that designers get to push the boat out and we see some truly magnificent strange and creative pattern cutting and stunning sewing skills.
There was a man who had fabulous floral beaded shoes this time with a black suit - they must have taken hundreds of hours of work. The suil had tails like a Dali moustache.
I like to see men getting in on the dressing up act.

I know people are ridiculed a d some outfits really are unwearable- but it's only for a short time and they change for the parties.

And it's a fund-raiser - I think I read $75,000 a ticket. The proceeds to the Metropolitan museum's costume department (rather like our V&A) which has some stunning collections.

Also, there is always a theme - this year the dress code was “Garden of Time,” after a 1962 short story by J.G. Ballard, with moody florals, clock motifs, and even outstanding archival pieces all expected to fit the theme.

If some outfits look silly, who cares. There's still a lot of skill on show with all that skin!

I have never seen such a group of ridiculous looking women, no dignity or independent thinking just follow the herd to look outrageous.

Strange, isn't it, that men wore suits even if they were rather different, but the women were, in the main, nearly naked.

Are the designers men?

One woman was well covered up (Sarah Jessica Parker I think) but managed to look like a lampshade.

I think the designers must dislike women as most outfits aren't at all flattering and ths women are daft enough to fall for it.

Has anyone actually looked at the outfits on show at this black tie event? If you haven't looked further than the headlines you won't have seen anything fabulous- you will have only seen the more outrageous and silly outfits.

Here are some "ordinary" outfits.

I agree, the outfits for both women and men were 'fantastic' and not in a good way! Some of them would have been appropriate in an episode of Dr Who.

that’s the thing about freedom… what they wear may not be to your style or aesthetic, but who are you to judge and stop them?

The Fashion /Modesty Police have plenty to say about what women wear in Iran, and Afghanistan… are you a paid up member of the Fashion Police… are you happy in your Burqua?
