We went to Saturday morning pictures. There were 5 cinemas in my home town. We were given a shilling. 6d for the cinema, 3d for the bus fare, there and back and 3d for sweeties. Then when I was 13 I got a job in a local cafe, washing dishes and clearing tables. So no more pictures. When I was 15 I was a Saturday girl in Woolworths. Sundays were for days out in dad's motorbike and sidecar until he bought a car, then granny would come too. I remember Frensham Ponds, Ruislip Lido, sometimes Clacton-on-Sea, Southend. We would play rounders and leapfrog. Enjoy a picnic, a brew was made on a little stove with methylated spirits. If not doing that I would wander a mile or 2, on my own, to a friends house. We would spend the day together wandering off for hours, returning home when hungry. No-one asked where we had been. They had no need to worry. I think I was about 11 when we got a telly. Before that was the radio. Mrs Dale's diary was a real favourite, as was Listen with Mother
