Teenage pop star crushes…( a very shallow thread…)

I’m watching a programme about Graham Nash and it got me thinking about people in bands from my youth that I had crushes on. But, decades later there were other members of those groups that were largely ignored ( in a fanciable sort of way) that have aged so much better. Graham Nash is one such example. Roger Waters from Pink Floyd (who, imo morphed into Richard Gere). Charlie Watts from The Stones. Rings Starr has aged particularly well. It’s something I’ve often pondered on over the years but never mentioned it before.

How could I forget the gorgeous Bryan Ferry. I also loved Eden Kane.

David Cassidy. I was going to marry him. He was just beautiful.

Pete Duel from Alias Smith and Jones. Devastated when he died.

My sister was a huge fan of Gary Glitter. She went to his concerts, bought the LPs. Obviously nobody knew what he was about then. I loved his songs as well, and I still do as well.

Mine goes quite a way back. Does anyone remember Eden Kane, he was actually Peter Stardset's brother.
My sister liked Bobby Vee ( Rubber Ball). Another blast from the past.

Mine were David Cassidy , Marc Bolan and David Essex who I saw in Godspell on a school trip.

Tenko, I saw David Essex in Godspell too. I was 15 at the time. It was at the Wyndham Theatre if my memory serves me right?

I used to love Alice Coopers music.

Of course - Bryan Ferry.

Curly my DM always said that if she went to Heaven, she hoped God would look like Cat Stevens!

Tony Hicks from The Hollies, Dave Davies from The Kinks, Phil May from The Pretty Things. I could go on grin

Paul McCartney
The beautiful Scott Walker
Elvis, obviously!
And Fabian, the American singer and actor.

George Harrison. My family still indulge me buying me tickets for George Harrison shows, the latest being The George Harrison Project which was fabulous.

Marc Bolan was very pretty, I thought.
David Essex, another pretty boy.
Bryan Ferry was quite sexy, and still is, in my opinion.

It really surprised me that Bryan Ferry came from very humble beginnings: seemed like borderline aristocracy. Always think Jerry Hall was mad to dump him for Mick Jagger. He’s aged very well. Don’t like him as a person, though.

Paul Jones and Mike d’Abo (sp) have both aged well.

Oh Paul Jones

Oh yes Georgesgran I agree with a young Cat Stevens - I had a huge poster of him on my bedroom wall. I also had lots of pics of the Small Faces and was saddened to hear of the untimely death of Steve Marriott. A young James Taylor was another crush, still love his music.

A young Cat Stevens.
Steve Marriott - a sad end.
Later Peter Starstedt.

Calendargirl Sat 11-May-24 21:40:40

I thought Marc Bolan was gorgeous.

Also liked Chip Hawkes from The Tremeloes.

Lots of the pop stars back in the day were so skinny, they looked good in their tight trousers! (Thinking of the lead singer from Free). And their lovely long hair. Probably all on drugs.

If they are still with us, probably all fat and bald.

While I can't say that I had a crush on him, Marc Bolan was an incredibly attractive person - and ahead of his time when it came to music.

Grandmabatty Sat 11-May-24 20:50:41

David Essex, Marc Bolan, Donnie Osmond, David Cassidy. I thought they were all gorgeous.

adrisco Sat 11-May-24 20:45:17

James Taylor

Bobby Darin

Misadventure, Gary Glitter! What the heck!

He was my heartthrob.
I had no idea about any of the other stuff

I still enjoy his music, too.

M0nica Sat 11-May-24 20:06:50

Adam Faith did it for me, Cliff Richard, never. But otherwise, I enjoyed the music, but had very little interest in the performers.

Scott Walker was my favourite for looks, but I also went for such as as Marc Nolan and the Incredible String Band.

We had a student maths teacher who would play all those"underground" records after lunch on Tuesdays in Room 2. He looked like all those singers, boy did we drool!

Scott Walker was a beautiful person, inside and out. His more recent music is wonderful, too. The Old Man’s Back Again is my favourite.

JackyB Sat 11-May-24 19:49:39

Marc Bolan (autocorrect is too young to have heard of him obviously)
