Beware......eating the end of a crusty loaf

As a new denture owner (complete with ongoing issues over getting them to bed in....) and still a bit ham fisted with them - dropped one set while cleaning them, they caught on the edge of the tap and broke off one tooth half way down and chipped the one alongside.... All in the first 2 weeks of getting them.
My sister broke one of her teeth - on mashed potato! Must have been pretty lumpy stuff

Eating baked potato = broken tooth!

I love my implant HeatherMH and would "happily" have another if necessary. Costs are huge but it's a totally engineered solution and stands alone. No other teeth are affected by it and I keep it clean like all my other teeth.
I believe mine will "see me out".

I broke a part of a tooth off eating rice! Getting it fixed on Friday.

I broke a tooth years ago on a prune stone and despite repair had to have it removed, I now have pain in the corresponding top tooth that appears to be from the prune stone trauma! Only option is extraction, looking at maybe having an implant as it will be slightly visible, anyone had one and is it worth it as looks as if it will be very expensive. Thanks

I have 2 implants next to each other. They are absolutely brilliant. You still need to look after them - ie keep your gums in good condition. I can highly recommend a water flosser for that - £25 on Amazon.

My filling came out last week as I was eating sweets. I keep clear of chocolate eclairs now too as they affect my fillings. I used to love them

I sympathise, this has been a regular occurrence for me. I have spent a small fortune on dental implants.

Chestnut you could get proper ones from butchers in the black country but haven't seen any here in the north west. I went on holiday to Berwick upon Tweed last week and saw them for sale in a butchers there. But not like the old ones you could get in the days where pork came with a good layer of fat . And after roasting a pork joint you always had a bowl of dripping with jelly on the bottom . Dripping on toast 😋

The ones pubs sold where more like puffed rinds not proper pork scratching.

My husband lost a filling to Cadburys chocolate eclairs. He always had at least 2 bags of sweets in the car.

Thank you travelsofar for reminding me of his sweet habit . I hadn't thought about that since he died. He loved herbals made by Teddy Gray's. No idea if they company still exists they where in Dudley.

Funnily enough, I'm sucking a Teddy Gray's herbal tablet at the moment 😄 I live near Bewdley, where Teddy Gray's is still the first shop that my grandchildren head for - just as their parents did...🥰

I broke my upper denture in two chomping on a Corn on the Cob at a family bar b que where my ex husband and wife were guests too.! I was horrified and fled to the bathroom where my DIL and I super glue'd it back together temporarily until I could get it repaired next day - - not eaten them since.!

When I had a bridge done a couple of years ago, my dentist warned me about being careful biting into crusty bread and to cut up apples, I always do that now.

@musicgirl I’m so sorry that sounds horrific! I always get dry socket after an extraction and I know how utterly miserable I was last time! I hope it gets sorted

Since losing fillings to nougat, twice, I have had to give it up. I don't risk biting into anything now due to wobbly lower tooth. I tear and eat bread, no more biting into a baguette or slice of toasted sourdough for me, sadly 😔

Mine was a bar of Highland Toffee - thinking about it, I haven't seen it for years now - but it snapped my tooth in half, mind you, I was pregnant at the time and I was really enjoying it until then!

My DH has lost his tooth crown to granary bread twice - he seems to be able to eat toffees & peanut brittle OK but not bread.

This has happened to us, our Dentist says he makes a fortune from granary! We don't eat it any longer...

I have loads of crowns (done when I had a very well paid part-time job) to replace one row of teeth which constantly needed the fillings replaced. It must be 30 years ago and to date I have only had one come out, which was simply stuck on again by my dentist.

Ended up with a crown to front top tooth due to eating some hard toffee a friend sent for Xmas alas so avoid toffees now but too late for that tooth !

Oh Lord. I’m going to start eating more soup. Clear soup, no bread. And porridge.

I returned meatballs to the supermarket together with the small piece of bone that I almost ate. Got a refund.
Later discovered it was a piece of tooth enamel sheered off the side of a large filling.

Implants are good but very expensive here in Australia
Had mine in London cost half the price
Even cheaper in Bali or Thailand
