Thinking of you Musicgirl.
I hope it's resolved quickly.

I recently felt something hard when eating mince. It was my crown. I went to the dentist a few days later and had to have the tooth out. I was not in pain before, but the extraction was a nightmare as it seems l have very strong bone and the roots were fused together with the teeth either side - apparently this is very unusual. The dentist could not remove all the roots and I was in agony afterwards and for several days following. I have a fairly high pain threshold so this was very unusual for me. I went back last week, three weeks after the extraction, to find it still had not fully healed and have been put on a waiting list to see an oral surgeon in order to have the remaining roots removed under sedation or general anaesthetic.

I once lost a bridge to an unnecessarily gooey piece of flapjack - my fault because I made it.

A dentist friend said muesli paid for his summer holiday.

I have several crowned teeth plus an implant, but I can manage pork scratchings. The thing I have the most trouble biting into is a Foxes chocolate coated ring biscuit - I have to cut with a knife then suck each piece!

I have had a problem from seeded bread when a seed became embedded in my gum . A job for the hygienist there.
Bread again !

I lost a filing to a licorice toffee

Did anyone else read this to the tune of I lost my heart to a starship trooper? grin

I’ve never eaten crackling since the day one small piece took out two fillings. And I’ve not been daft enough to bite down on a frozen raspberry since I lost half a tooth doing just that when I was making a smoothie.

Yes Maggiemaybe, the minute I read that line I started singing Starship Trooper. Now I want to watch the video.

I have lost fillings after eating pizza, but my dentist says one of the most often causes he gets is toasted sourdough . If you touch the edge you see how knife sharp it is.

My dentist told me that bread is the food that finishes off the most already damaged teeth. I think she said it's not a problem unless there is already a slight crack, fissure or something.
It's quite sticky when mixed with saliva so it happens even with soft and spongy bread- not just the crunchy sort.

I have broken bits off teeth at least twice with bread.

Oh my goodness this my story……all of the above pretty much!
I’ve even broken a tooth on a soft banana.
My whole mouth has always been a disaster, an expensive part of me.

Chestnut you could get proper ones from butchers in the black country but haven't seen any here in the north west. I went on holiday to Berwick upon Tweed last week and saw them for sale in a butchers there. But not like the old ones you could get in the days where pork came with a good layer of fat . And after roasting a pork joint you always had a bowl of dripping with jelly on the bottom . Dripping on toast 😋

The ones pubs sold where more like puffed rinds not proper pork scratching.

My husband lost a filling to Cadburys chocolate eclairs. He always had at least 2 bags of sweets in the car.

Thank you travelsofar for reminding me of his sweet habit . I hadn't thought about that since he died. He loved herbals made by Teddy Gray's. No idea if they company still exists they where in Dudley.

Anyone remember pork scratchings? They are probably the hardest thing known to man. I wonder how many teeth have been broken on them.

I lost half a tooth (on holiday in New York 2012) eating a piece of pecan pie! Nightmare!
My upper teeth are crowned, so ti respect my dentist, I’ve given up chewy sweets and toffee.

I stopped eating toffees about 5 years ago.
Lost a couple of fillings to them.

Eating salad, half of my tooth (pre molar) broke. Emergency dentist filled and built up the broken part. No problems since, she made a very good repair.

travelsafar - I broke a tooth once, while eating a panini - had to have a cap - that was a few years ago. I hate going to the Dentist - i don’t have the best teeth in the world - so, more work and more money 😂

My DH has lost his tooth crown to granary bread twice - he seems to be able to eat toffees & peanut brittle OK but not bread.

Mine was the caramel toffee ( my least favourite) in a box of chocolates. As it was a present from my MIL I said it was mother in laws revenge 😬

I was eating a Kitkat….the hard sharp thing I felt was my own tooth! 😱

travelsafar Mon 13-May-24 18:43:51

Yesterday, lunch with my daughter had garlic bread as part of the meal. As I bit in to a particularly crusty piece I felt something sharp in my mouth.......yes I had snapped a tooth off my partial denture 😫
Luckily I didn't swallow it and today after frantic phone calls to dentist and a denture repair service, I can breathe and smile once more😁
That was an expensive slice of bread!!! Lol 😆
