changes on the radio

Maybe listener numbers were down so another time has been tried. It would not have been moved just for the hell of it, radio listeners are at an all time low, partly due to podcasts, so changing times of programmes may bring in more listeners.

I agree, Round Britain Quiz has changed time and ruined my Saturday evening! Hopefully we will get used to it!

I alwaays find changes in radio programmes a bit disorientating when they first start. For me Sunday lunch has been built round the Food programme for, it feels, decades, but for example, pushing the dreadful Archers Omnibus back an hour, suits me very well.

If nothing ever changed we would still be listening to programmes first produced 100 years ago, had the BBC survived such a long period of stagnation.

So every few years the schedule is changed, some changes we hate, some we like. But isn't all life like that?

The bonus of BBC Sounds is that many programmes are already available so you can stay in your own routine!

I think it and other things are changed just for the heck of it... I am being a tad facetious... take supermarket shelves.......

My only real statement is that many years ago, I had a radio tuned to Radio 4 in all the rooms of the house
When I decided I didn't like the changes they made, I just switched them off and now only use 2 occasionally.
My husband, dedicated to classical music and string quartets was so disenchanted that he decided to give up and now is happy as can be listening and singing along to angel radio which he discovered by chance

And Record Review, which we always listened to over Saturday breakfast at 9am, has moved to 2pm. Hate it. And there's another b****y Archers repeat on Sauturday afternoons, which means I sometime run into it by accident. I loved having one Archers free day a week.

I’ve taken to using BBC Sounds and listening the day after broadcast at a time of my own choosing.

Yes I miss Record review too. It was a great chance to hear a variety of recordings and decide which you like the best.

It doesn't really bother me as I can listen at any time to suit me these days on BBC Sounds - just listen to things at the old times! Simple

The worst change is Woman's Hour losing Emma Barnett. She's great on Today, but Woman's Hour now sounds more like local radio than the intelligent programme it used to be 😢. Oh, and the travesty that is now Desert Island Discs. That used to be more about the individual 'going to the island '. Now any hint of emotion and it's instantly 'time for your next record '. I often find I know nothing new about the interviewee, whereas Kirsty Young used to gently let people share their life stories. Totally inappropriate choice to put Lauren Laverne in the chair.

You might like Private Passions which is on radio 3 at midday sunday and now goes on until 1.30pm . Michael Berkley is a very good host and it is more like the way Roy Plomley used to do on DID.

I hate the Archer's Omnibus, and, today, home for a Sunday I ambled into the kitchen to start cooking lunch at 12.00pm, turned the radio on, and out came the Archers - aaaagh.

I can cope with losing the lunch time Food Programme, and, even listening to a dire comedy programme, but, The Archers, spare me.

The Archers is definitely marmite. The rest of my family, bar one s-i-l, all loathe it. Thanks Madeleine 45, yes, I do sometimes catch that. I will endeavour to listen more often to it 🤗.

I'm unsuccessfully grappling with the new schedules - my routine has gone pretty much off-piste. By the time I've got back on track they'll be ready to change things again!
Furthermore, these alterations have introduced some pretty dire recycled stuff into Radio 4 Extra - unfunny 'comedy' featuring Alan Davis (pure corn on the cob), The Arthur Haynes Show, Much Binding in the Marsh, ad nauseam......

I usually have Radio 4 on all the time but there are few good programmes these days. I totally agree that Women’s’ Hour has gone downhill, first losing Jane Garvy,I thought she was the best and now Emma who was a breath of fresh air but probably better suited to Today with her combative interviewing style. What have we now? The Irish person who umms and aahs and is really second rate.
Radio4 Extra is dire at the moment with some really awful ancient comedies that really were not worth archiving. I used to enjoy it in my sleepless periods but at least now it sends me back to sleep!
I can only find ‘Round Britain Quiz’ on Sounds now.
I just listened to ‘From Our Own Correspondent’ a most interesting edition learning many facts I did not know, that is one programme I will continue to listen to

As Midgey says (maybe others too) use the BBC Sounds catch-up process?!

I haven't listened to the Archers since they threw Nigel off the roof. I have to use BBC Sounds to listen to Round Britain Quiz.

yggdrasil That is when I stopped listening as well. It was the 60th anniversary and R4 went hyper in the run-up suggesting something really dramatic and different was going to happen. I put my money on Helen's baby being profoundly disabled - then all they did was kill off a character and then expect us to believe that those right-on feminists Pat and Helen knew nothing about pre-eclampsia. I was overwhelmed by such a feeling of bathos and disappointment. I haven't listened to it since.

Just use BBC sounds and listen to them at a time of your own choosing.
