Small Babies With Headbands

As I said upthread I really fo not like them, but the snobbish comments have rankled me a bit, low rent, a certain class.

It is up to the parent, and their choice which would not be mine.

They do look ridiculous! Thank goodness my daughter thought so too...It's like babies and toddlers with ears pierced! Hate it...

A neighbour told me that her DS and DiL had taken their baby to a jeweller to have her ears pierced. This had been refused on the grounds that the baby was too young in his view, and if he had pierced her ears the holes might not be evenly placed once she had grown. They were furious, and told him so. Neighbour was very relieved and hoped they wouldn't find a not so scrupulous jeweller. I also feel that is a form of abuse. The headbands don't seem to be safe or wise, given the fact that the fontanelles are often not completely fused by eighteen months.

I don't think parents have the right to pierce their child's ears !!!! The ears belong to the child not the parent - it is boardering on assault! Why not wait till the child is old enough to want their ears pierced and old enough to consent y the procedure.

Do you feel the same about circumcision? (Just to be clear, I think neither that nor ear-piercing are acceptable)

It’s to Finnish the outfit off I think. Never really thought about it. I used to love babies in bonnets though! I had three boys so no I never had them.

I'd rather put my dog in a headband than be one of "those types" of people who have got to their 60s, 70s and 80s amd still haven't learned how vulgar it is to be rude about others choices.

I don't like them either. I am glad I am not the only one.

Of goodness me “that type of person” “common” whatever you mean by that - it is rather rude. If mums who work hard with babies to the point of exhaustion want to dress them up and put a bow on top to go out why ever not. You could argue the same for every type of baby wear from Liberty fabric smocked dresses, sailor suits ,double denim to extreme ruffles. Would you have babies in white babygrows with a white bonnet ? My Gds wore these very soft stretchy bows and if they didn’t want them on they just pulled them off. I actually quite liked them so assume I’m going to go into the bracket of “common” and that “type of person”. I’m just glad I’m not a narrow minded person ……..

The whole scenario is utterly ghastly. Why, why, why? It is rather like putting a poodle in a frill or flounce. Awful and, yes, possibly dangerous. Instead of buying that tat, learn to smock!! Remember that?

Yep, and it comes down to the fact that parents today like them, and parents from days gone by, don't.

I love my daughter in law to bits but I am so glad she had a son … cute bows would have been the least of it! Painted nails, ear studs, baby jewellery etc etc

I was always asked to make one of these for a baby girl, ok to wear for a photo shoot not all day.

My granddaughter sometimes dresses her baby in one of the local footie team colours. It actually looks quite cute and we have a laugh. Only thing is, it’s Collingwood - Aussies will know what I mean !!

Well there are always going to be freak accidents.
Blinds, covers, even snoozing parents causing harm to their children.
I'm convinced my mum must have been trying to strangle me with some of the winter hats she tied around my neck!

Why would they cause headaches anymore than a hat or cap would?
They're usually slipping down half the time.

And the ‘slipping down’ is the danger - as per my pp at least one baby has been strangled by one of these ‘cute’ hazards.

I dont know about the rest of you,but I dressed my babies in styles I liked...not those of my mothers generation.Maybe some of you would care to look back to the time you were young,delighted with your wee one and dressed them in clothes available in all the shops.
Mine were certainly fashionably dressed.no I didn't put them in long flannel nighties ,or rompers they were dressed of their time.So many narrow minded ,stuck in the past women...its mainly women...who do this.Surely anything that gives young mums pleasure when they might find life a struggle is fine...headbands are just that...they are not permanent so whats the problem.My mother had all her babies in white ,head to toe She thought colours were "common"but then she was born over 100 years ago theres no excuse for some grans on here its the 21st century .Let folk live their lives without judging ! I get quite shocked by the snooty remarks on here ...

I love to see babies wearing headbands with bows.
Not while they're sleeping though.
I got my daughters ears pierced when she was about 2 years old and my younger son got 1 ear pierced when he was around 5.
At 40 he still wears a stud in that ear.

I think if the head band is soft then it can look really pretty.
I don’t like to see little babies with a mini pony tail wound round with an elastic band. It looks so painful.

I’m sorry to hear about your granddaughter, but you must realise that the OP was talking about the fashion for headbands with bows, as have the rest of us. It must be extremely rare for a baby to need to wear a band for medical reasons, so no need to be so snippy.
