Small Babies With Headbands

Why do some mothers insist on putting bands around their babies’ little heads? To add insult to injury, the bands invariably have a big bow on them! Am I the only one who thinks they look utterly ridiculous?
I’m not a miserable old fuddy daddy and have no problem with pretty much all other baby fashions but I hate the look of this!

I don’t like them either Crossstitchfan but each to their own I guess.

My poor little babies were subject to the joys of broderie anglaise bonnets and mop caps to I couldn't possibly comment grin

I think they look cute, I used to put a woolen bonnet on mine, must have been uncomfortable.

I completely agree and do not like to see babies wearing them . Although they look very soft it must cause pressure in the babys head. Each to their own I agree, but these head bands are unesssary. I fail to understand why any parent would subject their infant to such a ridiculous and pointless accessory!! It is one of my pet hates !!

I’m with Crossstitchfan - babies don’t need headbands - their cute little faces need to be seen clearly .,

I agree, I think they look ridiculous, I put knitted hats on my babies to keep their ears warm or a sun hat these bands serve no purpose and look daft as well. .

I don't particularly like to see them (none of my GDs wore them), but I really hate to see babies wearing jeans! (none of the GC wore them)

Hellogirl1 Thu 16-May-24 17:42:50

I don`t like the headbands either, but I really hate to see tiny babies with earrings.

Crossstitchfan Thu 16-May-24 17:45:09

It’s interesting to se how many people agree with me! We are wasting our time though as I don’t suppose the headband lovers will care that so many people think the bands don’t do their babies any favours! I loved the ‘ridiculous and pointless’ comment! My sentiments exactly!
Oh well, we tried!
By the way, I don’t think you can beat a bonnet for the cute factor! Especially a Broderie Anglais one!

I think they're ridiculous. I've been looking for a little outfit for my niece's new baby girl and almost everything was pink and frilly with matching headbands.

Summerlove Thu 16-May-24 17:57:14

Better silly bows and headbands than pierced ears!

Casdon Thu 16-May-24 18:01:31

They are a bit naff I think, but baby girls have had to endure the most ridiculous headgear for hundreds of years, with frills, ribbons, and lace beyond reason, so it’s nothing new.

NotSpaghetti Thu 16-May-24 18:05:02

I don't care if they look ridiculous but they can be dangerous.

Re the cranium:
They cause an increase in force in these already very sensitive areas for a baby, and can cause developmental problems in they are left on for long periods

Also, at least one baby has suffocated with one.

They are the infant version of 'fascinators' - and I loathe those as well. Either have a proper hat or don't!

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 16-May-24 18:11:30

They are really naff. I’m glad my granddaughter doesn’t wear them. She doesn’t get dressed in pink frilly stuff either and her parents certainly wouldn’t have her ears pierced. Some things are really low rent.

I agree with this.

And to go one step further - when I read a headline that "xxxx" announces new arrival, or "xxxx" first picture of their new cute daughter, sometimes I know, I just know - and I actually say to myself "I bet this baby is wearing one of those ridiculous headband things". And I'm usually right! grin

ElaineI Thu 16-May-24 18:41:28

They look cute but I find hairbands very uncomfortable so must be same for babies. NotSpaghetti that is really frightening and I have often wondered about the pressure.

AreWeThereYet Thu 16-May-24 18:48:28

They always remind me of the 'Friends' episode where Rachel stuck a pink box on her baby's head because she got fed up with people thinking her baby girl was a boy 😄

Allsorts Thu 16-May-24 18:55:37

I don’t like them. I’ve noticed that a lot of the babies are bald and wonder if mothers are putting them on to show it’s a girl. Think they could be unsafe.

M0nica Thu 16-May-24 18:56:15

I cannot see any harm in them. Babies wear hats and bonnets, why not a headband?

Crossstitchfan Thu 16-May-24 19:03:18

I think you are missing the point. It’s not whether it’s harmful or not to have a headband because babies wear hats and bonnets. It’s about how ridiculous they look!

MissAdventure Thu 16-May-24 19:04:22

They seem to be the polar opposite of how things are today, with gender neutral, unisex people and the use of "they" rather than he or she.

They are pointless bits of girlie frivolity that serve no purpose.

Crossstitchfan Thu 16-May-24 19:08:01

@Summerlove
You’re right when you say headbands etc are better than pierced ears. Why would anyone have a tiny baby’s ears pierced? To my mind, that’s abuse! The mind boggles!
