Neighbours' radio
(50 Posts)Yes I do. People either don't realise how sound travels when it gets warmer or they don't care.
It is inconsiderate, have you had a polite word with them?
We have a widower living next door to us, he has his radio on loudly and his windows open whenever he is in the garden.
I wear noise cancelling earphones with my own music choice playing.
His music annoys me intensely but he is on his own, with no family so we tend to put up with it.
I would definitely talk to them.. they may not realise how much the sound travels and may be willing to negotiate times, or even wear headphones...
I did once over another issue but they started shouting so no not this time
If, after having a word they remain unco-operative, you could put classical music on in your garden very loudly! I did this many years ago and after doing it a couple of times as soon as their pop music began, thereafter we had blissful peace.
In this day and age with headphones and radio accessible on mobile phone, why is it necessary to disturb neighbours with this noise?
As your neighbour's don’t sound very reasonable people to talk to , then I’d play my own radio /music just as loudly .
I remember once , many years ago , a friend told me that his unemployed neighbours would play their music loudly all day long , every day , well into the evenings . So, he decided to play his own radio just as loud , he put it on timer , all day , every day also , while he were in work . It came to a point in time that his neighbour’s called around to complain , so he told them they can either turn their music off or turn the volume down otherwise he would continue to play his own radio all day , just like it is .His neighbour's soon got the message and made a point of keeping things quiet when he were at home from work . Tit for tat seems to work with unreasonable people , they don’t like it when the boot is on the other foot .
I have cannabis both sides of my garden I m saying nothing hate the smell though
Odd isn’t it how some folk think gaeden fences are sound proofed? There’s a public footpath behind our garden boundary fence, amazing what we hear. Sometimes I wish folk wouldn’t stand still and finish a conversation
.
I’d be irritated by constant loud music too, would probably resort to headphones while muttering that it shouldn’t be necessary.
I lived next door to a couple who at 11 pm would turn their TV up loud until 2 am. I got fed up with this so put a clock radio next to their bedroom wall (semi detached), so when they turned their TV off and went to bed. I set it for 59 mins. They soon got the message
You should pluck up courage to tell them ask them nicely to listen through headphones.
Perhaps they don't realise how loud and disturbing it is for you.
I would hate that. This is a reason I hesitate to move house. At present my neighbours are a care home on one side and the Town Hall on the other neither of which make much noise unless there's a function on at the TH.
Not my neighbours, but several houses on my development back onto the garden of an absolute nut case! It’s not just the loud music outside, it’s that if anyone dare touch her hedges, she calls the police. She called them when my gardener was lopping my tree - her language was vile, but the gardener didn’t rise to it. Last incident was she wouldn’t allow Openreach in her garden to lay a cable to her neighbour (who she watches and listens to with cctv!). In the end they ran the cable through my garden, then my neighbours, into another neighbour’s garden, then through into where it was needed.
Police called again a couple of Sundays ago, as she verbally attacked the same neighbour, who is absolutely terrified.
It’s such a shame someone like that has spoiled things.
Update..just popped a polite note through door saying if they don't mind turning the radio down a little as it's quite loud in mine..just waiting ..
The 1812 overture is such a lovely quiet relaxing piece of music to play for them!
My dad, who lived in a remote farmhouse, used to play it on full blast. My mum soon learned to push her glass ornaments to the back of the sitting room shelves after the vibrations shook a couple off the shelf.
I would put it on repeat and go out for the day.
Update number
She wrote back saying sorry its because he has bad hearing..its on again and still as loud so I will be making a complaint to council as its constant from Friday to sunday
Play your own radio, loud, with something you don’t think they’d like. So if they play pop, you play classical - the noisier sort, or vice versa.
Sometimes a taste of their own medicine is the only way - if asking nicely doesn’t work.
There is a gov uk site to report noise to a council, however this is a long process where you have to record the noise for at least 2 weeks, if it is felt to be excessive the decibel level will be measured and if found too loud you will be offered mediation.
Hi Woo ,
I really sympathesise with you over your inconsiderate neighbours .
I don't know what to advise .
Perhaps if you play your music really loudly they might realise how annoying they are .
But you're risking The Wars of The Neighbours !
Dealing with difficult neighbours is a nightmare .
I'm sorry to write it , but I've had trouble with male neighbours and never with my female neighbours .
We seem able to compromise and get on well socialising together .
In my last house , my neighbour used to spy on me peeking through the fence and standing on a chair looking over the top .
He complained non stop about my trees .
He tried to pull me inside his house on one occasion .
His wife and daughters really liked me and would invite me in for drinks and supper -he hated it and would show off storming off into another room .
Now I live next door to Mr Recluse .
His house is in a state and the garden completely overgrown and weeds go under and over the continually broken old fence .
If I dare mention having it repaired he goes berserk and shouts at me .
The assistants asked me if they should call the Police in the supermarket .
He refused to allow a man to prune my overgrown hedge .
I had to send him away and pay him !
Now he's not speaking to me .
I wish you every good luck with your problem .
I am already writing down times etc from Friday.. I have read my councils website and its classed as a nusience if it is continues..Also posing being a 1 parent but his living there
I’m sitting indoors now because I simply cannot bear the Country & Western music being played loudly in my neighbour’s garden! They have a hot tub and like to sit in it with beer and music! He’s a police officer and other neighbours have described him as a nasty piece of work. Fortunately they have just put the house up for sale, so fingers crossed someone less selfish moves in!
I once had this problem with a neighbour, they were always playing 80's music from an upstairs bedroom with the window open so I started leaving my back door open in summer and belting out my 60's rock n roll music, luckily I didn't have a neighbour on the other side of me just the one next door and even with the houses being detached the sound carried. It only took a couple of days and their music stopped and so did mine.
I will say, listening to Dion singing Palisades park on full blast took me back to 1962 when I was a teenager.
This problem is the eternal curse of the summer months.
I can't be charitable and give these pests the benefit of the doubt by ascribing the problem to being hard of hearing when modern hearing aids could deal with any difficulties in that dept.
No, IMHO they are either pathalogically anti-social or naively believe that their benighted neighbours must enjoy THEIR choice of (usually) naff music.
Funny how it's never something smooth and calming by the likes of Thomas Tallis.
Our neighbour works from home.During good weather she has her radio on all day while lounging in the garden.I know, great job which lets you sun yourself all day!! Anyway which station the radio is playing I have no idea. It's a mix of music and chat played loudly! We haven,t spoken to them for years.Fell out about footballs++being kicked into our garden intentionally by the wayward son. So having a quiet word is out of the question. The wayward son also has a habit of "working" on one of their many cars while playing extremely loud music on what must be a giant car stereo! Double whammy! We are all owner occupiers so council won,t be interested! Inconsiderate doesn,t cover it!
