She wrote back saying sorry its because he has bad hearing..its on again and still as loud so I will be making a complaint to council as its constant from Friday to sunday

Can you suggest headphones... even offer to buy them for him..

I think you are on the slippery slope to making an enemy of your neighbour I d rather put up with the music than make enemies of neighbours Luckily mine plays reggae which I love so I m ok

I also love reggae but don't force my music on other.as fir making upsetting them ..she has more to lose then I do

Our neighbour works from home.During good weather she has her radio on all day while lounging in the garden.I know, great job which lets you sun yourself all day!! Anyway which station the radio is playing I have no idea.It's a mix of music and chat played loudly! We haven,t spoken to them for years.Fell out about footballs++being kicked into our garden intentionally by the wayward son. So having a quiet word is out of the question. The wayward son also has a habit of "working" on one of their many cars while playing extremely loud music on what must be a giant car stereo! Double whammy! We are all owner occupiers so council won,t be interested! Inconsiderate doesn,t cover it!

The council will still deal with a noise complaint even if you own the property. Contact your local councillor to ask for advice.

We have just lost the neighbours behind us who played a lot of music in their garden . It was a local radio station which I hate . DH did go round and ask them to turn it down and they did a bit but complained that they liked to listen to it . I cannot understand why anyone would want to listen to this for hours. I did give them a blast of Wagner now and again. It probably did no good but helped me
. They new folk have no dogs are nice and quiet and are lovely people . My DD thought it was a hoot that I interrogated them the first time we met about dogs , music and parties round the jacuzzi . The husband laughed and said they had made it a clause in the sale that the jacuzzi was removed .They do have two cats but I love cats.

Try record the noise on your mobile phone or another device. Keep a diary of when it starts and ends.
Contact your local environmental health department.

Had a neighbour who put heavy metal rock in his house so loud that he could hear it in the garden. He said he didn’t think it was loud enough to disturb us.
We countered it by playing opera at full volume!!
I know that two wrongs don’t make a right, but it worked.

You need to monitor/record the radio nuisance and then report to Environmental Health, after a polite word of course.

Oh how I agree about neighbours’ music… usually Elvis!!! Every weekend day and evening. I can’t stand it. I have thought of playing classical ‘back’ but I’m going to go and see them to tackle the problem. They’re a nice young couple but don’t realise the din they’re creating!!! They’re five doors away too!!! I have no idea how their next door neighbours put up with it. Drives me bonkers when all I want is tranquility in the garden…… sigh…..

Same here, sit quietly in the garden and then hear voices and the music starts, not the radio as sounds like almost the same throbbing sound on repeat. Trouble is they are very nice and also my only neighbour so don't want to fall out with them.

Gin, my husband did that once, in fact he played Wagner at full blast. The loud pop music did not re occur!

Not unreasonable of the OP. Very unreasonable of those who play music outside that can be heard by all around whether or not they want to hear it!
I agree that on this day and age of headphones etc there is no need for noisy musical intrusion on others.

I do like opera but I think a loud blast of Chinese opera could do the trick.

While reading this post, I’m listening to my neighbours music - I am inside my flat with the windows closed. I work from home and there has been a few occasions where my manager has heard it to!

What your neighbour needs Woo67 is a new set of hearing aids. The more modern ones can be linked up to a Smartphone for playing music or talking on the phone, as well as used for normal conversation. Really there is no excuse. I visit a care home and had the system demonstrated to me by a very proud 89 year old chap who was obviously delighted that he could listen to anything at any volume without disturbing other residents.

Some people seem to lack any awareness of anyone else around them and how they might feel. I also think some people don't care and just live for themselves without considering anyone else. It's really unfair and you might feel they shouldn't get away with being like this. I'd say tread carefully though.
If you're in the habit of chatting to your neighbour, maybe if you were to broach the issue of their loud radio and the fact that you sometimes like to enjoy a quiet atmosphere in your garden, it would be sympathetically received. But if there's a chance your neighbour might get the hump, perhaps it's not worth falling out over.

Had this only last Friday even though make neighbour supposedly working from home. He was in garden on phone loud as can be abd music at full blast from his downstairs, folding doors open. I just opened my doors, turned radio up full blast and went to the front of my house to do chores. About 20 mins it took for his noise to be switched off. Bit of tit for tat and it worked. Think he wouldn't have liked my choice of music.

Woo67 The neughbours acknowledging he is hard of hearing should be well aware of how loudly he has to play music so he can hear it. My husband was deaf and when using hearing aids he asked me about noise levels. Once he had a cocklear implant not quite so much but I think through habit he still did. Poor hearing is no excuse for excessive noise.

Like others, I would be tempted to play my own music loudly,
but of course this will inconvenience your other neighbours.

I assume you do have other neighbours.

Are the by-laws in your area of any help? I would check this with Citizens' advice or the police.

As your neighbours have formerly made themselves unpleasant when you tried to discuss a matter with them, I fully understand why you don't want to approach them this time, but there is precious little else you can do.

Loud music all week-end is not something you should have to put up with, so find out whether you legally can stop this, or have other neighbours affected by it too.

Yes, I’m doing the same thing.

Recording times and dates on council website, but not for noise, but nuisance bonfires.
It’s exactly the same process.

My neighbours burn just about everything and we have to put up with acrid smoke.

Yes I do...you can report them to your environmental health as there are rules re noise

Be very careful about making a formal complaint. If you decide to move, by law you have to declare this info. Potential buyers will drop the sale like a hot potato.

We had a letter from the council about a noisy party, a neighbour had complained. As we hadn't had a noisy party that year I thought it must be my dog (a party in the legal sense?), who did like the sound of his own bark I admit but they'd always said he didn't bother them. When I rang Council to clarify they'd sent the letter to the wrong address.

In this day and age of wireless ear buds, there is no reason to play music loud at all. When I am gardening I stick in my wireless earbuds, tuck my phone in my pocket and bop away while I am cutting the hedges.
