It's raining - change of plans.

It's pouring here so golf is cancelled. Hence why I'm lingering and commenting on Gransnet. I should be using the time to plan the exercises for a new U3A Writing for Pleasure Group I am leading starting in July. Anyone else had to change their plans because of the rain but are using the time productively unlike me?

We actually put our trust in the weather forecast today and, as the boot fair goods were still in the car, we decided to try again today (the fair is on everyday of the bank holiday weekend.

It was a very different affair to Saturday, packed with stalls, packed with punters, we cleared all the big bulky items on our stall and went home well satisfied.

There had to be a fly in the ointment though. I feel the cold and always overdress for outside events, but today there was a nasty cold wind and despite 2 layers of, admittedly, fairly light clothing topped with a windproof anorak, as the morning progressed I gently cooled down and it was only on the way home I realised I had cooled down sufficiently to have mild hypothermia, so instead of doing the gardening this afternoon, I am wearing lots of warm clothing and nurturing myself in front of the fire.

Quite the opposite here in S W Wales today. Heavy showers forecast, but the sun has shone all day.

We had planned to do a Boot Sale today, but because the weather forecast for the last few day's said Sunday's weather would be dread ful, rain, thunder and lightenng, we decided to do Saturday instead, but as Saturday was forecast to be the only decent day, weatherwise, all weekend, I think everyone decided to have their day out to the sea instead. There were few stalls and few punters.

Today, Sunday, despite the forecasts, the day was, of course, sunny and dry all morning, we could have done the Boot fair and probably sold much more. heigh-ho.

We’ve had torrential downpours interspersed with sunshine, it’s spotting again now.
Dog hates thunder and lightning so she’s squashed onto my chair with me, neither of us are particularly comfortable 🙄
DH has gone into town to get 4 red bricks, that was nearly 2 hours ago which begs the question why it’s taking him so long!
I need to take the dog out shortly, hope we dodge the rain.

We have had some heavy cloudbursts this afternoon. The big, cold raindrops that soak you. All my activities today have been inside.

It started as a welcoming bright Sunday morning. About an hour ago the heavens opened then thunder with lightning. The animals cowering with fear means today will be spent lovingly pampering the animals. It’s usually fireworks that have this impact.

We managed to cut the lawn, chop up the old picnic table and have a drink sitting at the new picnic table … then torrential rain and thunder!

Waiting for bedding to finish in the tumble dryer. Spent the morning with one of my boys and his family....lovely. the cheese scones I made first thing were greatly appreciated with a cuppa. We had some lovely conversations everything from politics, illnesses, TV programmes, holidays and of course their wedding which is being planned for 2026, the main topic 😊
I also cooked some chicken to have for dinner later on. Once laundry sorted and put away I will settle down with my knitting and a film or catchup TV. Happy Sunday 😊

I ignored the 70% rain forecast this morning and almost made it home after my walk for a newspaper before it started drizzling.

MrPG has trimmed the hedge this afternoon in his shorts and the sun is scorching at the moment….British weather eh?

I am using the day forecast to consist of torrential rain and violent thunderstorms, so far represented by thunder rumbling in the far distance for four minutes and one shower of rain only heavy enough to SOAK THE CATS (their estimate, not mine) to take a well-earned rest from painting the outdoor sides of eight window-frames plus the actual frame round the glass of the said eight windows. (Nine days continuous work, including sanding and moving a platform of pallets and boards from window to window. Not to mention a regiment of plastic wedges to stabilise the whole shebang).

Right now the sun is shineing and the most recent update of the weather forecast postpones the thunderstorm to correspond with Mass at 6 p.m. If I believe that, I can get both to church and home safe and dry. We shall see what the weather is actually doing in 2½ hours CET!

And if you are interested I have four windows left, two of which are on the 1. storey which involves complicated acrobatics to reach the outer frames from inside the house in comparative safety and working with a safety line as well.

I am just about to sort through a box of 'summer footwear'. the redundant clothing was done last week - charity shop visit looming I think.

Spec1alk Sun 26-May-24 12:32:06

I’ve just emptied and reorganised the linen cupboard. Very satisfying, but I found things I’d forgotten I had!!- the box for the charity shop is now full.

My visiting family have just gone into town. With heavy showers here then brilliant sunshine I advised sun cream, sunglasses and an umbrella was necessary. Weird weather here in South Devon

It's raining quite heavily here in central Scotland. Wednesday is my quiet day anyway after two days of full on childcare. I have pottered about, done some desultory housework, swept the kitchen with a glance and had a nap. 😂 I'm now having a cuppa and a slice of Battenburg cake and watching a film starring Denzel Washington. I might hoover later. Dd popped in with a new dessert for me to try. I am content

Pouring down in Durham. Why on Earth I washed DD2’s towels last night is beyond me - in the dryer in batches.
Alexa is playing Michael Bolton, but I’ll have to go out for a birthday card, as I’ve nothing suitable in my stash.
Dog looks hopeful, but he’ll have to wait.

Still raining here in the Pork Pie Capital so I had a little snooze and am back on the laptop talking with you. I need t find something to wear to go shopping with my sister in Cambridge tomorrow. Any suggestions. I haven't a clue its very cold today.

Greenfinch Wed 22-May-24 14:36:29

Oh , I was about to clean the car.🤣🤣

AGAA4 Wed 22-May-24 14:35:56

I had to miss my morning hike as it was pouring down and hasn't stopped all day. I've done a big load of washing, my grocery order and little else.

Greenfinch Wed 22-May-24 14:34:49

I am not much of an outdoor person anyway so my plans are generally focused on indoors. This afternoon I am going to bake some bread. Easy and relaxing!

keepingquiet Wed 22-May-24 14:26:11

Catching up on jobs before a rare evening out. I always feel glad of a dull day then I don't feel pressured into going outdoors, so good excuse for indoor jobs.

Cabbie21 Wed 22-May-24 14:21:40

I had to make a journey today, driving an hour each way in the rain. Fortunately everyone was driving sensibly. Glad to be home safely. No plans for this afternoon. I don’t fancy getting on with my list of jobs. They can wait till tomorrow.

Listening to local radio, filling in time while wondering whether the gardener will turn up (I guess not as it's still raining). Cannot go out just in case he appears

I did give the en-suite a deep clean this morning while waiting, then stopped for coffee, read the newspaper and did the puzzles. Sorted the chilli out that I made yesterday and put it in the freezer.

Just going to sit and read this afternoon. Must get this book read by next week.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 22-May-24 13:26:48

I have been to the gym, Sainsbury’s local & Aldi, got soaked!

I am now lazing on the sofa with a latte along with a scone & jam so much for healthy eating 🤣🤣🤣

Norah Wed 22-May-24 13:24:07

I'm not at all productive today. Our first dog walk led to a mucky wet dog and 2 extra wet people, a bath, walking clothes, dog towels, mat in the washer, and mopped dog room/back entry.

Off to cook - dog needed to go back out. IDKY, I guess there was something to chase in the back garden? Mucky dog, another bath etc --

All night long (all night), All night (all night)
All night long (all night), All night (all night)
All night long! (all night), Ooh, yeah (all night)"

Jaxjacky Wed 22-May-24 13:23:44

Minimal rain, so no excuses here, library, shop and pharmacy visited, hob, then oven cleaned. I’ll be out watering containers and window boxes later after I’ve done some greenhouse sorting.
