No, I must admit I don’t feel like that. I feel very angry and upset that these horrendous things happened, but it’s good that everything is coming out into the open now, and that the people involved and their families will at last have their experiences heard and will get some form of justice, and will be able to move forward. That’s a bright day compared with what has gone before.

It is a dark day, so many victims, many already dead.

It would be darker if it was still all hidden secrets. At least it's all exposed now.
Makes you wonder what else has gone on and is conveniently covered up though.

In view of the announcement of the General Election date, I predict that in the coming years we shall have a deluge of memoirs by former ministers and other MPs who may have unsavoury revelations. They will know where the bodies are buried - but will they tell all?

I know, but I think nonetheless that closure is impossible for their families until these whole sorry events are fully revealed.

I think the saddest thing is that it reflects the callous attitude of the elite to the general public.
I'm not familiar with private medicine. Do they have a separate blood bank to the NHS?

That could have happened to me. In 1973, I was 6 months pregnant and on bed rest in hospital for the following three months due to a suspected placenta abruption as I was continuously bleeding. As the time due near, I was told that they had blood standing by as I would have to have a C section. Thank God I never needed the transfusion otherwise I may not have been here now. I heard of so many people who had blood transfusions in that era and died much too soon and many who contracted life changing illnesses.

I feel that dark days have already happened and are happening, and this is one more thing being brought out into the light.

Greta I’m cross they happened and furious at those who were/are responsible and haven’t been penalised for their despicable actions. But no, I am not personally ashamed, concerned that other such tragedies are lurking, yes.

That's what happens when you buy tainted blood from foreign countries. I hate to think that maybe some blood I helped administer came from prison in mates and drug addicts from the US where checks must have been appallingly absent. The US blood service needs also to hang its head in shame.
I sincerely hope these poor families and the victims of this appalling tragedy get their justice, too late for others unfortunately. As with the post office scandal, lives appallingly ruined because of downright bloody incompetent people, not fit to run anything. 😭

I think you have to ask what the root cause of the blood scandal was too. The British public not donating sufficient blood to meet the demand. Despite advertising campaigns then and now, that is still a big concern.

Covering up any kind of wrongdoing no matter the organisation concerned is now being exposed and that’s a good thing.

Society is now more enlightened as to the devastating consequences that covering up any wrongdoing has on mankind.

It has taken a long time and there will be some who’d still rather hide it but to allow the victims of wrongdoings to be vindicated we should applaud the whistleblower.

The US needs to hang its head in shame over so many issues.
They have the FDA who, through bribery allowed OxyContin to come to the market.
My brother in law was a chef on the Queen Mary. He sold his blood every time they docked in New York.

The Sub-postmasters debacle was active in 2003, people having to pay money 'back' for Horizon's problems. Private Eye put it in the public domain in 2011. It's taken almost a working lifetime to sort out, and no proper compensation. No prosecutions

Infected blood was 1970s & 1980s. Still no proper compensation. No prosecutions.

Grenfell 6yrs ago. Still no proper compensation. No prosecutions

Hillsborough 1989 the same.

Windrush compensation scheme - not satisfactorily sorted. And now people who've paid UK income tax all their lives being told they're not really British.

And 50s women - talk of bring offered £3k for losing over £40k, with what the Parliamentary Ombudsman described as maladministration.

And what do we get? General Election 2024 so it's all swept back under the carpet. Dark day indeed.

British people are not allowed to donate blood in Australia because of the BSE scandal. When DH offered his for DD who was very ill, he was turned down even though none was available locally.

I know, I was in that category too, because I was given blood when I had my daughter by Caesarian. I used to donate, but wasn’t ever allowed to after that. Most people still could though in the UK, as they hadn’t had transfusions.

DH hadn't had a transfusion; it was anyone from the UK.
