Giovanni Pernice what is going on?

I have no words that would be printable to describe Russell Brand.

I am not criticising women, and to be honest there is usually lots of criticism of women when they make an allegation. Having heard the allegations against RB I think there is no chance of him facing any legal consequences.

Is it known the extent of the criticism, someone posted of
Dean saying fxxxx to Torville with praise .

What I see here is criticism of women, yet any woman making
allegations against a man is praised. Such as Russel Brand

No of course they are not, but those who are unable to take criticism of their dancing in an attempt to improve their performance, and call it abuse, are.

I think Anne Widdecombe was with Anton du Beke.

Actually I think the majority of the contestants do really well and dance beautifully, to my untrained eye.
Some are not good dancers but certainly do entertain, I’m thinking about such people as Anne Widdecombe or Ed Balls.
I wonder what GP would have made of Anne Widdecombe? I can’t remember who her partner was.

Inadequate may be considered unfair, but it is also true.

All the contestants on Strictly choose to enter, no-one is forced, unlike school or the army. Some enter knowing they have little dancing ability but a talent to amuse. Then there are those who enter in the hope they will become a celebrity, put in immense effort and find they can actually dance. Then there are those whose talents lie in other fields, and some, a very few, resent criticism and as far as dance is concerned, are inadequate.

Also, if you know you have a dancer that is a very hard task master maybe put them with someone who is very strong in themselves. They must surely do some psychological profiling/assessments.

I do realise that things can go wrong too of course.

Annie - I'm not really saying that dancers and participants carry no "blame" but I do wonder if some come to it more damaged than others. I know nothing of the vetting.

Yes, it maybe that the BBC needs to review its selection processes. For example, I know I’m not a celebrity, so it doesn’t matter, but I wouldn’t be able to cope with a lot of criticism. People who enter this competition need to be in robust health mental health wise. Not all are.

Agree eazybee. And the cult of the celebrity may well play into this. Celebrities are used to being feted, not critised, and to succeed in Strictly, the celebrity needs to buckle down and work hard and accept the criticism in order to improve. I think those who are now complaining couldn’t hack it.

Agree Maddy but the women have been harshly criticised on this thread.

What is happening is innuendo, and that is the most difficult to fight. Sly hints from un-named dancers and celebrities, impossible to identify and refute; no specific charges to answer, just damage to a professional's reputation.
Giovanni will go elsewhere, (Strictly's loss) and continue to be successful; I doubt if Amanda Abbington will receive many job offers.
So many people now can't accept criticism so term it abuse; much easier to be a victim rather than inadequate.

Obviously we don’t know that Annie. I suspect the standards are set by the individual dance trainer, and it appears that GP was a hard task master. The women who are now complaining were obviously not able to cope with the work. I don’t think they’re complaining about assault and so I can’t see charges being brought, so if there’s no criminality involved, then we are left to conclude that some of his partners couldn’t cut the mustard in ballroom dance.

I think we should wait to see if any charges are brought against him. If that doesn’t happen, then I think we probably can safely assume that the partners weren’t up to GP’s exacting standards and leave it at that. Television stars and celebrities are used to everyone fawning over them and thinking they’re wonderful, and it appears GP wasn’t impressed by their status and simply did what he was instructed to do, and that is get them up to standard.

Unfair, not everyone could run the 4 minute mile

If you want to be excellent at anything you have to work really hard. Something that some of the celebs obviously weren't prepared to do.

For those who haven't watched it, Strictly is interesting for the way in which those who have had little experience of dance,actually learn and some of them get to be very good.
On the downside, I would prefer not to have all the sob stories. These seem to pervade many programmes, such as the Pottery Throw Down as well as Strictly.

Rose Ayling Ellis won partnered with Giovanni. They were so inspiring together. She used to say he was like a frilly dragon lizard when criticising her! Maybe she and Debbie McGee were more prepared for hard physical work than some of the others?
