Unfortuntely i am the remaining sibling of brother/sister who are in their 80s..was very supportive of them when i was more in contact with their families in the last years but now, as i now need support/help there is no contact...am not trying to be competiive or judgemental, I was the only sibling who visited/cared for our mother in last couple of years..am drained and very upset...

I’m sorry Bea. Do you have any other family?

I’m so sorry. I only have one child too and can’t imagine your distress. In your position I would feel rather bitter towards my siblings (I imagine, as I have never had any). You are perfectly entitled to feel as you do. Is there anyone else who you can call upon?

I attend medical appts.on my own...I can't surely be the only Senior Citizen who has no-one accompanying them - have always supported friends and now realise this is not reciprocated as many are older, who do i turn to for support?

Very sad Bea65 but I would ask if you actually need physical/emotional support or just feeling a bit down, especially with your DD heading West.

Have you asked any of the friends you’ve helped in the past to help you - perhaps they need more of a nudge in that direction? I prefer to attend medical/legal appointments on my own, but that’s just me.

You’ll definitely get emotional support here on Gransnet.

I really wish I could answer that. You have been there for everyone and it must be heartbreaking to find that nobody is there for you. Have you tried Age UK or a local charity which offers friendship and support to older people?

Like GSM I’m an only child, so we seem to grow up fairly independent. Sometimes if a friend offers to help, I’ll thank them, but often turn down the offer. I do help them though.
