I remember reading a similar article from a magazine published in the fifties. It was all about looking your best when hubby arrives home having cooked a lovely dinner before changing into fresh clothes and putting a ribbon in your hair etc. I think thigs may have been like that one upon a time.

Of course, being a child in the 50’s I was never aware of that kind of “doctrine.” In time, I learned a little history about attitudes like that - not particularly good.

Those days are long gone thank goodness.

Unfortunately, they are making a come-back in certain parts of the English speaking world, according to a documentary I recently saw on France 24.

It seems to have started in USA amongst the more traditionally inclined groups, such as Ku-Klux-Klan, but is currently spreading.

(Some) young women, calling themselves, or being called ,Trad Housewives are singing the praises of a lifestyle that includes being stay -at -home- housewives and mothers, being financially depended on husband ,, and generally living life in a manner that we associate with our grandmothers, Old Order Amish, ultra-orthodox Hassidic Jews, or fundamentlistic Muslims.

Willing as I am to respect anyone's right to choose their lifestyle, I personally hope and trust that Trad Wives remains a minority trend.

I went to a catholic all girls school in the late 60s, early 70s. Our sex education was, and I quote, "I am a temple of the Lord thou shalt not enter!" I once heard on TV or read somewhere a mother say to her daughter, "let me eyes be your contraceptive!!". How things have changed.!!

Mum never said anything remotely resembling that. It's a spoof not a real textbook, imo. Nuns didn't say anything so silly. I believe they wanted us to be as they were and marry The Church and Christ.

Oh boy. Hubby and I are not NEARLY so formal.

As to the waking up early, I do recall one particularly funny incident. Somehow we forgot to set the alarm, and I woke up about 20 minutes before my stepdaughter (who was at ours that day) was supposed to be at school - and of course she wasn't awake yet. I let out a foghorn shriek that woke my husband, who was all, "WHAT in the blazes HECK, WOMAN?" Once he figured out that the house was not, in fact, burning down with everyone in it , we got daughter up and she made it to school on time!
