My DH says " it is what it is" too often.

A few years ago I was on the receiving end on GN of "Clear off, you won't be missed." I was actually going through a very hard time in my life and was very upset by this.

For the record, and to establish that it's not a man thing, I detest "It is what it is".

I was told that 'It is as it is' was a motto used by the Plantagenets; that gives it dignity. They accepted what fate had decreed and their prowerful dynasty moved on, with enormous success. International thinkers in the world of the horse and cart. The dismissive remark that really gets under my skin is 'Oh - whatever', usually accompanied by a flapping hand when the speaker has senssed they are losing the debate.

Agreed. Similarly, 'If you don't understand [insert something you never said in the first place] then I can't help you'.

Also agreed about 'whatever'. It sounds very teenage.

If anyone says It is what it is what it is, I’m afraid I just say , or not as it is.

I thought that was just me - I get a heartsink feeling that I have said something so silly or trite that other posters are rolling about laughing.

"Life's not fair"(emphasis on the not and said in a sneery voice) when I have just been ranting about the iniquities of the world!

“Well, it won’t last forever”. This remark from a friend floored me somewhat when I was having a grumble about my mum.

"Oh, you funny little thing!"

Someone said to me “Do you know, we have never had a house number?” They had moved house several times. I had no idea what say so said nothing?

'That's your truth' not a lot of come back from that!
