How on earth can this type of stunt gain votes?

Our current MP is a LibDem. So was the previous one. They work very hard locally. No stunts just dogged determination to help their constituents. I was very surprised to see their current leader in Scotland yesterday in shorts and T shirt handing out the prizes at our local children's sports day. Nothing special. Just there.
It reminded me of a previous MP long gone - Lord James Douglas Hamilton. He used to quietly turn up at the most unlikely events and just show an interest and talk to people. He took action too if you asked him about anything that was bothering you. Just an old fashioned service oriented gent.

Reminds me of Neil Kinnoch knocked over by the waves on Brighton beach. He never lived it down! However they do say that even bad publicity is better than none.

I'm with Romola on this. The man is seeking headlines and publicity any way he can. Going by this thread he has succeeded.

I’m sure he knows that they’re probably going to pick up quite a lot of tactical votes, and will try to kid himself that this means voters are ‘turning to the LibDems.’

I simply have no idea who I will vote for this time. I'm a floating voter and hoping for a good independent locally, though I know this is probably a wasted vote.
Our local Labour candidate looks good on paper but a vote for him could put Starmer in charge which does not appeal to me.
I'm not keen on the Tories either and a vote for them is probably also a wasted vote in this area. We have little idea who would be in charge if they win as Rishi Sunak may not stay long.

I think he needs to change his advisor/PR company, three daft stunts on three consecutive days. I dread to think what he will get up to tomorrow.

I agree. This sort of stunt doesn't appeal to the solid middle class voters that used to vote for them. Pathetic.

It strikes me that a tactical vote is the way to go in this election. Our constituency has always been a safe Tory seat with Labour second.I will vote Labour as no government can be as bad as the present one. In an ideal world PR would be great making the smaller parties count for something.

Who knows? Maybe his advisers think it make him look more “human” or maybe he secretly wants to lead the Raving Loony Party? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

He seems to be trying to emulate Boris, but it's certainly not a good look.

I think he is being rather silly which is a shame as I think it will lose him votes.

It is - and there are plenty more photos of him doing other ridiculous stunts. It is equally ridiculous for people to say they won’t vote LibDem because Davey is doing stunts, if they happily voted Tory when Boris was. There is no difference.

Not that I have any great hopes of Starmer, I should have added. 🙁

I wonder if any here who say they will vote tactically for the LD candidate will think twice after all this silliness?

Our constituency is always a toss up between Con/LD - Labour come nowhere. Currently LD and our MP is all right, so although I pretty much think the LDs are a busted flush, I will vote for them this time because IMO the country badly needs a change.
I have voted Tory more than once in the past, but to me they have done so little about really major issues (the dire shortage of affordable housing just for starters) I cannot justify voting for them again.

I think someone must have told him that acting the fool got Johnson votes, so it will do the same for him. If this reflects their opinion of the general public, then they certainly won't get my vote.

He is making a right @rise of himself and the Lib Dems. I would be ashamed to be associated with just childish behaviour. We are voting for the future of our country and the legacy we leave to our children/ grandchildren. Instead of ridiculous stunts how about making sure we know what the Lib Dems stand for because I have no idea despite living in an area having Lib Dem local council. By the way, they are making a right hash of it.

If you're the leader of a minority party, getting any coverage on the media is next to impossible. Ed Davey is simply raising awareness. Yes, some of the stunts are a bit silly but not lacking understanding.
And tarring Ed Davey with a Post Office scandal brush is unfair. He met Alan Bates and queried the chiefs at the Post Office, only to be told lies. Other ministers during that administration had similar experiences.

If I cast my vote for a Lib Dem candidate this time around, I won't be voting for a party leader but for a candidate who - hopefully - is likely to be a good and caring representative of this constituency; a good record in local government would be an advantage. Ed Davey's silly stunts may have done incalculable damage to many such candidates. I'll try not to let him influence my vote.

I worry about his health after falling in Windermere. Badly polluted - Sewage leaks. Have a bit of dignity Davey.

I agree about the Post Office. Given that, I think he’s unfit to be an MP, never mind the PM.

Vote grabbing stunts or not, I'm afraid I can't get past his involvement with the Post Office. Yet another person who could have stopped this injustice in its tracks but did nothing. Claims he was 'misled' into believing what he was told but he should have done the job he was paid for and investigated what he was told. He likes to pass the buck. Not my idea of a future PM.
