Research into so called Blue Zones indicates that connection is important.

Today, I spoke to a neighbour who was washing his car, an acquaintance in a charity shop, another neighbour who was closing her gate, somebody I haven't seen for years and my hairdresser.

Not bragging, there are days when its down to zero.

I prefer to be rung at home. I have dyspraxia and have concentration problems listening to the phone other than without distractions, either noise, or movement and that is impossible outside.

For me mobile phones have their uses but not for making or receiving telephone calls outside the home.

I don't stay in to wait for the doctor to call. I see it's a private number and find a quiet spot to answer.
I never stay home for parcels either.
I think if I did that I would miss so many things.
However now I live alone, Company is very important.
Today I spoke to my Volunteer helper at breakfast. She's off duty today to explore Edinburgh.
Now I shall go to the charity shop to donate winter clothes I no longer wear.

yesterday: DH
DD because we were staying with her until lunch time
Tai Chi tutor and class members
Postman

Today, hardly anyone as we are both housebound waiting for the doctor to ring. As we will be low priority, the call is unlikely to be until this afternoon, but you can never be sure.

I agree with Polly7. Really miss family life. Many days especially weekends are too long.

Woman behind the counter at the petrol station and woman serving at Greggs and later my friend and her husband will be arriving and I will be meeting them at their hotel. Tomorrow, however, probably just the guy in the paper shop and maybe the delivery man if he brings my flowers on the right day. Without FB and the internet I could be pretty lonely. And not forgetting my 16 year old dog, though he spends most of his time asleep, bless him.

No-one. I will be going to the library later though, and will speak to the librarians there.
I live alone. This is normal for me. I speak to a number of people at Church on Sundays and at social and fundraising events for the Church.

Canadian Gran - don’t retire! It’s a ridiculous idea which leaves a lot of us isolated and lonely! Carry on for as long as you can!

My son who phoned me this afternoon and then six colleagues/friends at a social event this evening. Would normally have phoned at least one other friend but had a migraine earlier so wasn't feeling up to it. Also myself and my late husband. Had a minor rant at the housemartins that were attempting to construct a nest right above my front door. Thankfully they have listened and moved on!

Harmonypuss Sun 02-Jun-24 20:52:19

Today ....
My son (for 90mins when he called me at 1am)
My son-in-law (visited to help with something, about 2hrs)
My PA (10seconds, passed going other way on escalator in Asda).

Normal day ...
My PA (2hrs Tues/Wed)

Otherwise no-one (except my dog), unless my son deigns to call me (once or twice/month in the middle of the night - no, he's not abroad, just 200miles away).

knspol Sun 02-Jun-24 19:50:12

Only a phone call from sister.
