Kitty, I have no problem with paying, upfront, however, I am sharing my experience, here in Scotland.

Furthermore, I know that due to your husband being a dentist, your are far more knowledgeable than I am.

Regardless, Mary an NHS dentist in England is entitled to ask for payment at the start of treatment.

Kitty, I had an appointment a few weeks ago and a follow up in the middle of June, but I haven't signed a form since before the pandemic.
It is a very large practice with both private and NHS patients.

Most dentists don't enforce it, Marydoll, but it is on the form when you sign to accept NHS treatment and agree to pay for it.

My dentist hasn't and doesn't. I only pay the balance.when the treatment has been completed.

My DH has had two recent appointments with the same practice in preparation for a crown, he wasn't asked to pay anything upfront.

on the topic of dentists and payment, the place I attend take the money from you as soon as you arrive for the appointment. I’m assuming that in the past some perhaps left without paying, although I’m not sure how they would get away with that unless they’ve provided false name and address details.

The plumber is supposed to be coming tomorrow evening (fingers crossed) so I will be moving stuff out of the way this afternoon. I have an early appointment at Opthalmology tomorrow morning so I will not be posting in here.

Morning everyone. Thank you for the warm welcome. Today's another work day, only 4 left until we jet off.
It was perhaps a mistake to leave the day after I finish my shift set as I feel like I have 100 things to do and not enough time to do it. I suppose it won't matter by the time I'm sat on the plane and leaving it behind.
This evening we are having pesto pasta and some chicken out of the freezer chucked in. We are trying to use up things we have lying about in the freezer and cupboards etc. These meals often end up being really nice as they are not in the usual rotation.

Good morning all from a damp northwest coast.
Sunday saw the clan from various parts of the country gathering for the scattering of my cousin’s ashes followed by a nice lunch. Interesting to meet some younger members for the first time.
My sore jaw still bothers me so I went into the dentists yesterday and they brought an appointment forward as I’m going abroad next week and would like it seen to before then.

I popped into the bookshop owned by my dear friend who died recently and signed a condolence book, it was so sad to think he had gone. The shop was his life and a good job he had made of it.

Music club today, so will sing, sore jaw or no.

Morning all from Kent where the sun is trying to shine! We have been paying up front for glasses and dentistry for several years. I suppose it prevents ‘no shows’. I’m just glad that we can afford to pay - anyone on a restricted budget would get a fright at the prices. Our hygienist is £76 a visit ( 50% paid in advance of the next appointment!). I’ve been seeing a gum specialist at the same practice and it’s £150 a visit! As I am not out frequently, I can draw on the money I don’t spend anywhere else! I’ve had two phone calls this week asking me to proofread documents and books. Both of the clients cringed at the fee I quoted. The publisher who recommends me says that I am at the lower end of pricing ( cheap!). Funny how people get upset when you tell them the price, do they think I should do it for free? I started proofreading because I was bored being stuck at home due to my issues with balance ( I need to use two sticks) but I don’t think that I should give my services free. ( I might for the right book/cause ). I’m waiting for the doctor to call me re blood test results - I have also done a home test for HepC as I had a blood transfusion in 1985 during my hysterectomy ( aged 30!). Life is getting a bit complicated at the moment.
Marydoll I hope you have sorted out your email account, I did reply to your parish bulletin at the weekend. Just hearing DH moving about , he’s on late shift this week - two trips from Maidstone to Heathrow along the M25, rather him than me!

Good morning everyone from an overcast Northampton, rain forecast this afternoon.
Out to coffee this morning with neighbours past and present; will be lovely to have a good catch-up while eating cake.
This afternoon will continue with my book club read, as it will be raining.

Blood pressure and pulse excellent at the surgery yesterday, and the nurse kindly looked up the results of my recent blood tests, which included one for myeloma - which thankfully was negative. I had been tested for it before Christmas, and showed borderline markers, which was a bit worrying. Hence this further test after 6 months.

Hope today goes well for all.

We did a lot of work in the garden and greenhouse on Sunday , had a lovely morning yesterday walking round NT garden yesterday, but I’m taking it easy today catching up with my crochet

We had no Mass in our Chapel this week but we visited the family grave and lit candles for our poorly friends here

Good morning everyone, old and new, from the Scottish Borders. It's cloudy but dry.

I've given my helper the day off to explore Edinburgh! Which hopefully means I can have a day off too. We are trying to clear the sitting room for the new ceiling. I would like to have it nearly empty minimalist for when the work begins. It may not be for months yet but I can't do it on my own.

I managed to find an NHS dentist when I retired. I could not afford the scary prices.

Good morning from a blue skied Algarve. It’s been lovely in the early mornings but tends to cloud over as the days go on. Temperatures in the high twenties. I’ve been diagnosed with an allergy to the sun which makes life difficult and also means I feel hot and uncomfortable wearing a hooded sun screening top when everyone else seems to be in skimpy clothing.

Hope you get a favourable result from your CT scan in time Mick. It’s anxiety inducing.

It’s all go here at Gravy Grange, bed has been changed, summer duvet on (wait for the rain, wind and cold to arrive 🤣) washing machine is whirring away, with multiple piles waiting to go in. I am off for a manicure and pedicure in readiness for our holiday this week. I am so looking forward to returning to Cyprus, same hotel I find the familiarity relaxing and a comfort which is what we need with the ongoing saga of our house.

Llfl, your remark about not sitting up for the election results caused a pang. I suddenly remembered the first time my DH wasn’t interested in staying up and I did it on my own while dealing with the realisation that his Alzheimer’s was more advanced that I was willing to admit.

Good morning from a cool, overcast Durham. After yesterday’s no show, the builders were here at 8am and work is underway - deafening!
Tea, coffee and juice dispensed and I’ll be out of their way for most of the day having coffee and lunch with a friend.
Very sad to read Baggs news and of another GN in the kitchen, who sits helplessly watching her DH’s life ebb away.
Life isn’t a bowl of cherries!

Good morning from a cold & wet Sefton. We have been sadly lacking in this lovely weather some of you have had.... and are still having.
DH is out with the dog at the moment & will then take the car in for a service. If he's back in time we will then go to our u3a AGM. No plans for the rest of the day.
Thoughts with those of you with worries & struggles. Hope today is kind to everyone.

DH has been under tunnels in Berlin, he had to do it on his own, I was refused entry, due to my lack of mobility.
I spent the time waiting for him, walking around a shopping centre in a less salubrious area of Berlin! 😡
