Do you still have your charm bracelet?

I was thinking I haven't worn my silver charm bracelet for ages. I got it as a Christmas gift when I was around 12 (in the early 70's) and the first charm was an airplane to represent our first flight planned for the upcoming summer.

I love how it tinkles as I move, but drives me mad when it frequently gets caught on clothing. I have about a dozen charms on it.

I think the Pandora ones are fun, but not the same in that the charms are all similar looking. The original charm bracelets were all so individual.

I still have mine, a gold one with about 15 charms. Built it up over the past 50 years or so, but it's never worn now. Hopefully my granddaughter will wear it sometime.

DH gave me a gold charm bracelet for the first Christmas in our marriage along with the charm of an engagement and wedding ring. It's now totally full of charms collected over 32 years, many of them to commemorate holiday destinations, one of the first of which was a palm tree from Jamaica. Memorable, as when I first wore it out for a meal, the palm tree got snagged on my knickers when I went to the loo. I really struggled to free it as that wrist was now fixed firmly to my pants. blush My DGD who will inherit the bracelet, loved to hear about all the charms but I think this is the one she'll remember me by.

I had a silver charm bracelet given to me on my 12th birthday. It became very full of charms over the years, some very unusual. My youngest daughter loved it and I’d planned to give it to her when she was older. In the mid 1980’s we were burgled and they took the bracelet. The sentimental value was immeasurable. All these years later and it still makes me sad to think of it.

21st birthday. Other relative gave me charms for it.
Years later I gave it to my new Daughter-in-law, i have never seen her wear it, but I don’t mind as it is not very practical.

I was given a silver bracelet by my parents-in-law for my 21s

I never wore jewellery until I was in my mid 20s and somehow charm bracelets never appealed to me. I was very much into genuine Victorian jewellery - especially earrings. I had a large collection of them.

I wasn't allowed a charm bracelet as a child. I've never had one.

I had forgotten about mine, which sounds to have had charms similar to Bonnybanko, and I have no idea where it is!

I am also reminded of Auntie’s gold one, which must have gone ‘ who knows where’, along with other things she had before the dementia kicked in. There’s every chance it went in the bin, or was in a handbag or pocket of something that went to the charity shop.

I was given one many years ago but gave it away, I wear little jewellery and it was rather impractical.

I still have my silver charm bracelet which was a gift many years ago. It's heavy with charms. I must look for it and wear it now and then.

I didn't have one , but I really wanted one .
My mother had promised me her charm bracelet and then gave it to her favourite granddaughter ,who'd admired it out of politeness .
She's never worn it .
I look at them it the jewellers , but it's not the same thing !

I haven't seen mine for about 50 years when my parents sold up my childhood home. Everything was put in packing crates and they embarked on a wandering existence (long story).

It was a Christmas present from my parents when I was 6 years old and thereafter I received a charm each year. Oddly enough I was only thinking about it the other day.

Another sad gransnetter here - charm bracelet with precious tokens also stolen in a burglary.

harrigran Wed 05-Jun-24 08:37:59

Yes I still have my charm bracelet, a gold one given to me by DH for my 21st. I don't wear it because the safety chain keeps snapping and I am afraid of losing the bracelet.

I still have mine, which was given to me when I was in my early teens. It has a spinning wheel, knitting needles in a ball of yarn and a key - that's all, as I sadly lost interest in it. I think I should get it out again and wear it. I wonder if it's still possible to get charms - so much has happened in the intervening 60 or so years that I could commemorate.

I have a lovely silver charm bracelet but I don't wear it very often due to it catching on clothing. Sad really as its a shame to keep it in my jewellery box hidden out of sight. My birthday is soon so I may just wear it then

I have a silver bracelet from a famous store in New York. I’ve bought a charm most times I’ve been there, but I hardly wear it. When I looked at the prices now, it’s quite valuable, so I’ve photographed it laid out against a ruler and also on my wrist, for insurance purposes.
DD2 has two full Pandoras which are in my safe, as she doesn’t wear them.
My late friend had a massive gold one, filled to capacity, but never wore it. She wanted her DGD to have it, but her DH says she’ll only get it when he dies and not before, as he thinks she’ll just sell it.

Yes, I was given a silver bracelet for my 21st and over the years it has filled up with charms from all over the world, I haven’t worn it for years as it’s too heavy. I think my favourite charm is a giraffe which OH bought me on business in Kenya. So many charms and so many stories. It is mentioned in my will - my daughter will inherit it.

kittylester Wed 05-Jun-24 07:13:26

I have a gold one which DH gave me on our wedding day. It is quite full so very heavy and, as the OP said, gets caught in clothing.

I also have a Pandora one - which are, apparently, back in favour.

Cossy Wed 05-Jun-24 07:06:12

Yes. I was given the initial bracelet (empty) when I was a bridesmaid, I was around 10. My Dad used to travel a lot for his job in Insurance, mainly America and Middle East, my two favourite charms are a drill for an oil rig (his area of business) and a teeny tiny passport which my Dad wrote inside.

Bonnybanko Wed 05-Jun-24 06:50:58

I had a beautiful silver charm bracelet with lots of lovely charms , a church with the bride and groom, a ring with what looked like a diamond in it, the letters of my name, however as I didn’t wear it I gave it to my daughter velvet box and all, she was so very touched that she wept. A great memory for us both

DanniRae Wed 05-Jun-24 06:45:52

No I don't have it. But I don't know where it went........maybe in a burglary? We have been burgled 3 times sad
We have an ALARM now!

Marg75 Wed 05-Jun-24 06:01:55

I have a silver one that an Aunt gave me in the late fifties, it came with one charm which she and my Mum added to over the following years. There are lots on it, many that open up, it's quite heavy as well but I never wear it.

BigBertha1 Wed 05-Jun-24 05:58:16

Sadly no. It went in a burglary
