Why does he think this is necessary? A week or 10 days while the mother recovers from the birth is quite sufficient.

…. If he is an unsupportive pillock. To enable fathers to properly bond with their babies I’d like to see paternity leave lengthened - particularly for second and subsequent babies, and if the mother has had a Caesarian delivery which means she can’t drive for six weeks.

This was actually initially announced 8 months ago by the Lib Dems just re-anounced.

I say it depends entirely on the family as to whats desirable or necessary, by giving them this option: we cant lay down what is best for all families. I can think of many situations where it would make all the difference.

The party said it would increase parental pay for fathers and extend their entitled leave by four weeks.

And about the fathers that leave the family home - or those who simply do not join it? Many of these are on permanent leave. Perhaps the Lib Dem’s will come up with an allowance for them too.
