Sad news - It looks like Michael Moseley has been found

He reversed his diabetes many years ago!

Only speculation I know, but maybe the extreme conditions caused a heart attack or collapse through heat exhaustion, especially since he suffered from diabetes. It’s been reported that he had no injuries, but firstly fell to his knees and then fell out of sight.
Very sad. His poor family. So unexpected.

It has been reported that he died of natural causes.

Reports say a body was found next to a beach and should have been easily spotted. The bar manager went to investigate something that looked out of place at the side of the beach and found a body. It shows how fleeting life can be.

According to the reports I've seen, he was didscovered by a film crew filming from a boat who only spotted it when they went back to edit the footage, and not easily potted from elsewhere. But what I just cannot understand what a fit and healthy man who has dedicated his life to telling people how to live fit and healthy lives, decided to take a walk in the middle of the day in temperatures of over 40 degrees over difficult terrain and not take a phone with him. It just seems such a stupid thing to do. They believe he took a wrong turn and got lost, a phone would possibly have saved his life.

Namsnanny no, my husband wouldn’t touch a watch with phone capability, but thanks for the suggestion. He really is awkward over mobile phones. He thinks people are never off them, which of course some never are. However in certain circumstances mobile phones are priceless.

We’ve just come back from Ibiza and it got up to 28 on several days. At lunchtime in that heat you needed to sit in the shade. You would have to be mad to be outside at 10 degrees more.

I read that Greek locals would not set off in searing heat like that at the hottest part of the day. I noticed that Dr Michael only had black trainers on his feet which seemed inadequate on that very rugged terrain.

He has appeared on TV and written so many books telling us how to avoid illnesses, to keep healthy and generally look after our bodies then he goes off with no phone, just a small bottle of water, wearing unsuitable footwear in dangerously high temperatures.

Life is so fragile.

I picked up my car on the day he went missing. On the way home I listened to him telling me to eat slowly.
This morning I had made up my spoonful of turmeric, yogurt (full fat) and pepper, as per his instructions then I heard that his body had been found.
He obviously made an impact on my life and I presume he did on many on gransnet.

Mosley’s wife confirms TV doctor’s death, says news ‘devastating’.
Dr Clare Bailey Mosley has confirmed her husband TV doctor and columnist Michael Mosley has been found dead on the Greek island of Symi, adding that the news was “devastating”.

In a statement, she said:

I don’t know quite where to begin with this.

It’s devastating to have lost Michael, my wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband.

We had an incredibly lucky life together. We loved each other very much and were so happy together.

I am incredibly proud of our children, their resilience and support over the past days.

My family and I have been hugely comforted by the outpouring of love from people from around the world. It’s clear that Michael meant a huge amount to so many of you.

We’re taking comfort in the fact that he so very nearly made it. He did an incredible climb, took the wrong route and collapsed where he couldn’t be easily seen by the extensive search team.

Michael was an adventurous man, it’s part of what made him so special.

We are so grateful to the extraordinary people on Symi who have worked tirelessly to help find him. Some of these people on the island, who hadn’t even heard of Michael, worked from dawn till dusk unasked.

We’re also very grateful to the press who have dealt with us with great respect.

I feel so lucky to have our children and my amazing friends. Most of all, I feel so lucky to have had this life with Michael.

I normally carry my mobile with me, but have certainly been known to forget it. Now my husband, that’s a different situation altogether. He doesn’t like mobiles (?? I know) and rarely carries his, despite my pleas to him. What to do 🤷🏼‍♀️

It is the opposite way around in this household.

I think I should start being more sensible.

Not sure if it is correct but one of the papers is saying they have seen cctv footage from the marina restaurant of him coming over the hill on Wednesday and making his way gingerly down to the fence before disappearing from view. If its true I cant understand why they didn't check cameras sooner.

Having his phone would have allowed rescuers to locate him via gps

I have felt so sad for him and his family today. And this evening but for the long walk in such heat they would be enjoying a Greek meal in a taverna and the rest of a lovely holiday to look forward to. Just so very sad for them all.

I wonder if he decided to visit the Monastery which is why he walked in that direction and not down the road to Symi Town. The walk doesn't look easy according to reviews.

So very sad , My heart goes out to his family. However......!? Why would an intelligent man set off for a walk in such extreme heat , at that time of day. Wonder if he was trying to prove he could do it ? We will probably never know what happened , may be rest in peace - he will be missed, by family and the public.b

Such terribly sad news. He seemed such a lovely man with the most infectious laugh. I'm so sorry for his poor wife and their children.

The local Facebook group for the village we regularly visited on southern Crete had posts from the civil protectorate last week pleading with visitors not to hike . Two people had died in the unusually high June temperatures. They referred to the pressure on police/mountain rescue and local volunteers when people hike in high temperatures, often without adequate water etc.
I’m very sad for dr Mosley and his family. Accidents do happen. I always carry my mobile for that reason.

SAR half my life. bad outcomes were, being alone in mountains where i worked no water phones dont work in many places never never go alone .i live in the gulf of mexico now so different needs but
