Sad news - It looks like Michael Moseley has been found

To posters who recently said they hardly bothered with their mobile phones ……… perhaps this could be a mind-changer?

I’ve come across all sorts including a body when out - the phone gave me instant contact for help.

Reports say a body was found next to a beach and should have been easily spotted. The bar manager went to investigate something that looked out of place at the side of the beach and found a body. It shows how fleeting life can be.

So sad, how utterly devastating for his family and friends. My heart goes out to them all.

Absolutely.
It's not "living in fear' as somebody said, its common sense.
We can all learn from this tragic accident.

Very very sad for his family and friends. And for lots of the public as well. He was well respected.
Lots of "If Only". At least the family know what has happened. Worse would be to never know.

It's common sense to carry a mobile phone at all times. It doesn't mean you have to be scrolling on it every 5 minutes.

You have absolutely no idea if a mobile phone would have helped him in anyway.

At least he had a life well lived. He will be missed by many people apart from his family although they will, of course, be feeling it most. RIP

Obviously, there may not have been a mobile phone signal there, but one could at least be traced as to one’s location via the phone?

But it might have, Galaxy.

But if he was killed immediately it would have been no help to him. This isnt the place for this debate but we as human beings are terrible at assessing risks, and when terrible things happen we often use coping mechanisms to imagine it wont happen to us. Oh I would have taken a phone with me, oh I wouldn't walk in that area, etc.

A mobile phone may not even have worked in a remote Greek island.

Sad news indeed. A mobile phone may well have saved his life as it may have been tracked.

It was over 40° when he started his walk.

It is perfectly possible to walk in that heat if you know what you're doing. I've done it frequently and come to no harm. Millions of people live and work in that kind of heat all their lives.

So sad however much better to find his body than to be forever wondering.
I agree a phone is an almost must have these days for so many reasons.

So very sad, we watched his TV programmes and listened to his podcasts, he seemed a very nice man. I hope he died of natural causes and that it was a very quick death.

Carrying a phone everywhere does not do any harm. It weighs nothing and takes up no space. It might be useful, it might not ... but it definitely won't be useful if you don't have it with you.

Not sure if this is the place for discussing the merits of carrying a mobile 'phone, I learnt a lesson a year or so ago.
I set off to walk to our nearest post-box, posted letter and then decided I didn't want to go straight home, so crossed the road into woodland and walked a bridle path.

Halfway round this 2 mile trek I thought "oh, I rather like this, no one in the world knows where I am" that was when it sank in how ridiculous I was - plenty of exposed tree roots to trip over. Without a phone goodness knows how long I would be laying there had I fallen and hurt myself.

Dh once scared me to death after we’d been sightseeing in Athens. It was incredibly hot and humid, we were both dripping and exhausted, and about to return to our hotel, when he insisted on climbing dozens of steps to a temple within the ancient agora.

Not long afterwards we crashed out in our hotel room, where I was soon woken up by his weird, alarmingly noisy, stertorous breathing. I dare say it was ‘just’ heatstroke, but I had to wake him up, convinced he was about to die on me.

Thankfully I think he’d have more sense nowadays, than to over exert himself in such heat and humidity.

Very very sad news and so horribly sad for his family I wonder why he was there…. was that on the way to where he was staying ?
I would never go out without a phone the last thing I say to myself before I shut my front door is phone, purse, keys, glasses
Millions of people do live it that heat Baggs but not so much when they are used to blooming cold weather like we are

BlueBelle you’re right about it being what you’re used to. One summer in Portugal it was 40° to 50° and much too hot for us, but the people we stayed with lived and worked through it.
