What spelling mistake do you hate/notice the most?

There are several, but ‘draws’ for ‘drawers’.

‘affect’ for ‘effect’.

‘neice’ for ‘niece’.

Ahh yes, especially the infamous 'chester draws'!

All of those already mentioned annoy me! And seperate instead of separate; definate instead of definite; preditor instead of predator.

So many GNs have been saying ‘Trooping OF the Colour” this morning!

How about MOT’s ? I’ve seen that blasted apostrophe more frequently than a sign without!

Not a printed one but secutary and Febuary 😡

I must admit that I am a culprit for occasionally misspelling their and there. I have a mental block and have to really think which one to use - sorry.
I learnt to use the correct stationary/stationery by thinking stationery has a “e” for envelope.

The problem with spellcheckers is that if the word is a correct spelling of an actual word it will not register as incorrect. More advanced spellcheckers can spot the context but not always. An ability to spell is still required!

‘Your’, when it should be ‘you’re’. It happens so frequently.

As for the OP, I was taught at Grammar School to remember that stationery had an 'e' in it for envelope. I have never forgotten it. Texting has a lot to answer for.

I went into The Works store and told them they should correct stationary to stationery on the sign in their window.

Our regional newspaper reported yesterday on a man dying from “hyperthermia” as his house was so cold. The young journalists they employ make huge mistakes every week and never improve.

Apostrophes used incorrectly are another bugbear.

I think the problem is that a generation has grown up taught by young teachers who themselves weren’t taught English grammar.

But we see appalling mistakes here every day, made by people of our own age - and there are posters who always make the same mistakes.

Received an email this morning from a well known greeting card from that I use. Why don’t these mistakes get noticed? I hate seeing this spelling mistake.
