Why do people always refer to the third person after “me’ or ‘I’? Announcers on TV and Radio do the same. Eg. Me and my husband, me and my son/daughter.
Perhaps posters on this site do not proof read when it comes to spelling or grammar mistakes

The way I was taught to remember how to spell necessary was "one "C"ollar, two "S"leeves!

As an English lecturer I came across all sorts but the worst I think is from my own, privately educated daughter who insists on pluralising with an apostrophe, for example baby's for more than one baby or the Miller's for friends of hers. Apostrophes should only be used for omission or possession and not plurals. I keep telling her but to no avail. Money well spent!

I still remember the lesson that first introduced apostrophes - I was maybe 7.

Teacher asked whether anyone knew where we put an apostrophe.
The hand of the girl who always knew everything shot up. ‘We were playing with the boys - before the S in boys.’

’NO! That’s exactly where we DON’T put it!

The teacher did sound seriously stern, but, boy, that lesson never left me!

I've been on a Facebook page recently, which is a group for those who are planning and designing their kitchen with a particular company.

I have found myself getting very agitated by the use of "draw" and "draws" instead of drawer and drawers.

I can understand it a little, as - depending on your accent of course - draw can sound like drawer, but I really dislike it.

The most amusing one I recall from a student was ‘haughty culture’ instead of ‘horticulture’.

I'm not remotely surprised. At some point several decades (sorry, decade's) ago, teaching in this country went severely downhill, and a generation or too (!!) of pupils (sorry, pupil's) were presumably told to spel it ow it sowndz its OK so long as peepl no wot u meen.

These days I have to restrain myself from correcting folk on the local Facebook who write their, they're and there pretty much at random, or the now almost compulsory would of/should of/could of (sometimes with an ov!!) which I see irritates other GNs two (to). The usual claim is to blame an 'auto-correct' facility, though I wasn't aware that also removed the option of checking something before hitting 'send'?!

[NB -- any apparently careless erorr's in the above text may or may not be deliborate. I will/shall now try to consentrate on sumfink else].

Formally instead of formerly as I saw in Saturday's paper when describing an ex-MP. Made me cringe!

Cabbie 21 mentioned where/were. This possibly comes from something that really irritates me - people substituting the
‘ wh ‘ sound with ‘ w ‘. When teaching , I used to get the children to practise making a ‘ wh ‘ sound, reminding them that there would be a blowing sound at the beginning if they’d got it right. Just don’t like the where/were, which/wich etc. l won’t start on the shuge for huge!

Overuse of words such as unbelievable and incredible especially when commentating on sporting events.

Funnily enough, we used to spell ‘colour’ in what is now the American way. I have seen it in so many Conveyances from the nineteenth century.

I hate ‘cozy’ too. I am a grumpy old woman.

Two pet hates for me, defiantly instead of definitely and as we are caravan lovers, birth instead of berth.

Dislike the American spellings such as ‘color’ for ‘colour’, ‘cozy’ for ‘cosy’ etc that insidiously creep in. I have no objection whatsoever to Americans using our language as they see fit in their own country but why oh why do we have to have them here?! I agree that spelling has declined everywhere but it is annoying to see it in advertisements etc. Don’t get me started on punctuation or grammar….!

I've always been a complete nerd about accuracy in spelling. However, I sympathise with those who struggle to get to grips with a language that has 10 ways to pronounce the letters "ough":
Thought it would be rough to plough through the slough though it was falling into the lough that left me thoroughly coughing and hiccoughing.

'Should of' makes me cringe but I think 'your and 'you're' come a close second. Some of the errors I think are probably a result of predictive text and then being too busy (lazy) to check before pressing the send button.

Yes, for me it's "should of", not "should have" and also "draws" instead of "drawers"-"Loose" for "lose" i am sure there is lots more- it seems to be the younger ones i'm afraid, as they dont seem to learn correct grammar nor to speak properly these days.
