Think Charles is doing ok. And believe a slimmed down monarchy is the right way to go and definitely get rid of Andrew.
Do people still stamp their feet in anger?
I don’t know if monarchy is the right word or not but what I’d like to ask is do you prefer the way King Charles is being King or the way Queen Elizabeth ruled?
My personal view is that I prefer Charles’ way of doing things. He comes across as very caring and kind. I think Camilla has given him love and support and he has relaxed into a much more genial figure.
I think QE was very remote and guarded, which is not a criticism of her but a result of the time and manners of when she came to the throne.
What do you all think or not as the case may be.
Think Charles is doing ok. And believe a slimmed down monarchy is the right way to go and definitely get rid of Andrew.
I’m not sure what jobs they actually do. I have only read about things they have enjoyed doing, Trooping the Colour and Royal Ascot for two.
I prefer no monarchy at all. Dieu et mon droit - really in this day and age? Divine right to rule? The current royals are at least less formal than previous generations in their relationships with their children. I remember years ago seeing a newsreel of Queen Elizabeth returning from a Commonwealth tour and greeting her young son (Charles) with a gloved handshake. So some progress now. Perhaps the royals could now fork out a bit more of their own money to pay for some of the more lavish pomp they surround themselves with.

Grantanow I agree. The vast wealth, vast expense is not justifiable
I also believe that we just cannot possibly tell what any of them are really like. All we see is the public face, which they are groomed from childhood to maintain.
Vast expense to whom? The monarchy costs each of us just £1.29 per year.
I am not a huge fan or royalty. If we are going to have one I would prefer a low key and less expensive Scandi style monarchy. The degree of entitlement exhibited by some of our royals (thinking particularly of Andrew) is off the scale.
I agree Whether tomorrow

We would probably not vote to have a monarchy if it did not exist. But we DO have one and it seems popular. I like the King as he is a kind man and cares about the environment. But I think Camilla should be Queen consort. I can’t think of her as Queen. Having said that, I don’t think we will have a monarchy for much longer but can’t quite imagine how it would come to an end.
Queen Camilia IS queen consort! She is married to the King, not the sovereign herself.
However, queens whether the sovereign, as Queen Elizabeth II was, or married to a king, as most British queens, or any others for that matter ,have been are spoken of as "Queen + their given name." No-one has ever been talked of as Queen consort Mary or Queen consort Elizabeth. King Charles' grandmother and great-grandmother whom I have just referred to were spoken of as Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth as long as their husbands, George V and George VI were king.
and even after their husbands died; hence during the last reign, of our elizabeth ll, to speak of queen elizabeth referred to her mother, somewhat confusingly.
this is because during their reign, the monarch is simply, the queen, or the king.
no further distinction needed, or appropriate within this realm.
My vote goes for no monarch at all.
Hi in response to monarchy one thought I’d rather have Charles than Putin
I'm a republican so would prefer a person elected by the people.
King Charles is not a wonderful person and neither is Camilla. Both ruined Diana's life and he only married her to ensure an heir and spare.
Terrible family with only one or 2 exceptions. Receivers of the largest amount of tax payer funded benefits.
none. maybe a king/queen, get rid of the rest of the dole dodgers

🤣🤣🤣
You’re entitled to your view, as is everyone else.
Regardless of whether or not I agree with your views about the RF, I really enjoyed your use of that phrase above, at this time of a general election.
Just read the threads on GN. We do so well in electing people to hold a role.
Everyone is in agreement about who would be best, aren’t they? 🤣🤣🤣.
If I have to pay out for someone, I’d rather pay for the RF, whose existence encourages tourists to visit the UK and pay to see and to visit their homes and palaces than someone like Tony Blair, Gordon Brown (who robbed my pension pot), or Boris Johnson et al or Mr Starmer or even Mr Sunak. Imagine having to fund election campaigns for HoS as well as government parties.
But that’s just my view.
I live across the pond but from what I understand the Monarchy is a self paying institution. I believe they actually make money for the UK? As far as a preference I think Queen Elizabeth was incredible and I think King Charles is too but in a different way. I also really like Queen Camilla, she seems like a much better wife to Charles than Diana was. Princess Diana was not treated well by that family, it was heartbreaking to watch.
I don’t have a preference as to what you call their ‘style’ of monarchy. Obviously over 70 years the world has changed hugely. When QE 2 began her reign, there was a British Empire and everyone was very formal and deferential. Charles is adopting a more informal, chummy style, sometimes even hugging people whereas the late Queen wore white gloves! I think she was the better character, though, never putting a foot wrong. Charles seems genial and I think is trying hard, and you have to respect that when he has cancer. However he has made many mis-steps in the past, such as his poor judgement of people like Jimmy Savile and a paedophile bishop he supported. His first marriage was messy. I also remember his nasty comments about Nicholas Witchell. He seems to bear grudges - he didn’t attend the Duke of Westminsters wedding as he and Camilla were not allowed to sit together at the Duke’s sister’s wedding - this was before he and Camilla were married and it was thought QE would not approve!
Did Charles say why he didn’t attend the wedding? or did the press !
She is the Queen Consort but uses the title Queen as did Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, who was also Queen Consort.
Well said jan1956. Some people have short memories. Our late queen had a faith, morals and dignity.

do you think it ok for Camilla to send Chares cufflinks on his wedding day to Diana with CC intertwined? So wrong when they say "the queen2 i only think of Our queen Elizabeth
Cufflinks were discovered on the wedding day, Diana popped down to the postal dept of Buck House on her wedding day ?
We're told that the royal family brings tourists to Britain, loving the pageantry.
It's a useful invisible export and also raises the profile of the country across the world.
I think the Monarchy is a good thing for our country, but I did prefer our late Queen's style. I don't trust Charles, he appears to be a globalist, so it will be interesting to see if he stands by his oath.
I suspect that William will be a very relaxed monarch with a good rapport with people. More like the Dutch, Danish or Swedish monarchy. Fine by me but no rush.
what do you mean by a globalist ?
I'm not a monarchist by any stretch of the imagination and think most of them are over indulged beings who have no idea of real life as it is for millions of their 'subjects'.
If we have to have a monarchy then The Netherlands style would be the one I prefer. They go about their business in a very ordinary way and don't seem to be surrounded by security. I've seen them as a group at two fairs and they have gone on rides, joined in dancing etc and there is respect for them but absolutely no fuss. They were a breath of fresh air compared to ours.
