I’ve never bowed or curtsied, but that’s mainly because I’ve never met any of the RF…….

I prefer Charles, Queen Elizabeth was too much like her mother, ran the household with an iron fist. So many lives were ruined because of the silly laws like Princess Margaret and Group Capt. Townsend just because he was a divorce they could not be together. King Edward having to abdicate due to wanting to marry a divorced woman, then there was Diana and Charles, him being forced to marry a woman he did not love and look how that turned out.

King Charles now seems to be very happy with the woman he loves. I like this new brand of royals and long may they reign.

They were married in a civil ceremony in Windsor Guildhall and had a blessing in St George’s Chapel in Windsor, in reply to LucyAnna2.
I like the slimmed down monarchy, it was very obvious on the balcony after the Trooping the Colour. I don’t think we should be paying for their weddings etc but I do like the tradition and historical element of it. I find them interesting in many ways and wouldn’t like to see them go.

As a young woman, Queen Camilla turned Charles down and married someone else because, like many women she did not want to be a member of the Royal family because, she did not want to live in a gold fish bowl. I think she was one of many of King Charles, and Prince Harry's girlfriends who thought the same and did a runner

Princess Diana, was very young and had, what I always thought, was a crush on Prince Charles, as he was, and did not have the maturity to think through what marrying him entailed.

We had a lucky escape with Edward VII and Princess Margaret's decision has to be seen in the context of the age she lived in. Setting aside family concrens, she would have been excluded from many sectors of society. There were whole sectors of social life where a divorce and remarriage was entirely unaccepteble. Remember Princess Margaret was a practising member of the Church of England.

I totally agree with Grandma 70. I also still can’t think of Camilla as queen although I think she’s doing a good job. Why couldn’t the Duke of Edinburgh be called king Phillip? Was it a sexist thing of its time?

I am a monarchist. I witnessed the coronation of Queen Elizabeth 11. Times were different then, but I think she did an amazing job. Yes of course she was of her time. Charles will be different as he is of his time and so on. Even if I were not a monarchist I would view the alternative as less positive, even dangerous, depending on who we got!!

Queen Elizabeth II was queen regnant - just like her namesake Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria. She succeeded to the job of monarch in her own right. Queens Alexandra, Mary and Camilla are queens consort because they just happen to be married to the monarch. All being well Catherine will also be a consort when William succeeds his father. Those are the rules of protocol.

It’s an outdated institution that needs abolishing, so personally I’d prefer having none of them

I think she possibly has an illness and can't help fidgeting.. I think she is lovely and warm and has definitely improved Charles..

Grantanow - A cheaper monarchy? I am fairly ambivalent about royalty but I do think they do a lot of good and bring revenue to our country.

I want less dependence on state handouts and less feeling of entitlement! This seems to be a one sided thing with no benefit to the country. Living around me in a fairly affluent area, I see so many taking handouts because they can, so easily available. It’s an easy option.
The monarchy give return on their income. Their wealth is in this country.
Come the revolution I guess it will go to the people! If that makes the anti monarchists dwell better!

I'm a Republican, so don't give a flying fig for either type of monarchy.

Grantanow I agree. The vast wealth, vast expense is not justifiable
I also believe that we just cannot possibly tell what any of them are really like. All we see is the public face, which they are groomed from childhood to maintain.
